papereyes The highlights for Southampton away were a frightening beast to watch in the pub I was sat in.

Looked like we were the defenders of Fort Alamo and they were a shitload of spic marauders.

I think over this one though sadly it's getting to the stage where the bad is starting to outweigh the good.

Starting?

How long ago does October and November feel now? I actually have a PM from rabidbee in December saying "We may still be winning but its not as much fun anymore"

I agree paps, especially on the bit where we were winnig but winning ugly shall we say. I'd say for arguements sake that wining makes it good in the main though, it's totally unrealisitic to expect the 4's, 5's and even 6's that at times went in to continue throughout the season, just like it's unrealistic to say over 46 games there weren't any bad games! I am the first to say that the performance is a lot of the time as important as the result as the expense to watch the football increases. But I'd say pre Xmas things in the main were good, since then it's been appalling. So around half and half but starting to edge towards the appalling side.

Alan Partridge
Sebastian So was Schards right?

He was right apart from the midtable bit.

The football and direction the club has gone since Christmas really has been 'dull and uninspiring'.

far from dull

frustrating, annoying, upsetting, enraging, crushingly disapointing arent words i associate with dull
they just arent as positve as id like

brendywendy far from dull

But for the football to not be dull, surely you need inspiration? Seeing as you negate to say that the football watched has not been inspiring, surely by default you therefore say that the football has been dull?

[waste of time]

Schards#2 I think we need to get used to mid table championship football at the very best until there is a sea change at this club.FALSE. 4TH!

Madejski - clearly, his heart is not in it to the extent it was previously.PROBABLY TRUE He would love to sell out but can't find a buyer TRUE. He will keep the club sound and stable TRUE but has no intention of investing further funds or trying to push the club forwards. DON'T KNOW - HE MIGHT TAKE THE VIEW THAT HE NEEDS TO SPEND A BIT IN ORDER TO GET THE CLUB READY FOR SALE. YOU'RE PROBABLY RIGHT, THOUGH.

Coppell - if the spirit of the championship had survived, he would definately have been the right man for the job TRUE, but it hasn't TRUE - BUT IT DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY FOLLOW THAT HE ISN'T (WASN'T) THE BEST MAN THIS SEASON. The chairman is not fully behind it anymore, many players have left to pursue their own self interest and many still here would like to leave. The golden team has long gone and we have to move on and build a new teamTRUE. Coppell doesn't, IMHO, have the hunger to do this HMMM - (A) THE TEAM HAS DEVELOPED FROM WHERE IT WAS AT THE START OF THE SEASON (B) I'M NOT SURE THAT "HUNGER" WAS EVER COPPELL'S DEFINING CHARACTERISTIC.

Whilst not being a member of the carpark squad, I applauded their actions as, at the time it was the right thing to do. Had we known that the spirit of the championship side was already totally dead, in hindsight, we should have let Coppell go and started afresh SUBJECTIVE - BUT I DISAGREE..

As for Madejski, there are some on here who would happily see us drift downwards whilst improving/maintaining our balance sheet in the belief that the rest of football will meltdown around us and we will emerge as one of the last men standing. They are rather like people who build nuclear bunkers in their back garden. Much as I admire and appreciete what Madejski has done, I don't see how the club can go forward with him at the helm and would now like to see someone new who wants to move things forward.

Can't see either leaving anytime soon so supporting Reading's going to be a whole lot duller and uninspiring than in recent years :cry:IF YOU'RE COMPARING IT TO THE CLUB'S BEST EVER PERIOD, NSS. A LONGER TERM COMPARISON? THE JURY'S OUT, BUT 4TH AND THE PLAYOFFS AIN'T NOTHING

Yeah. Let's not get caught up in little details like the difference between midtable and 4th, eh?

Free-scoring Reading should be able to make that up in no time at all.

It's a moot point. At Christmas he changed his stance to "in the long term" which is completely and utterly correct. I'm sure even he's been shocked at how quickly the club has gone down the tubes. I know I am.

No. Absolutely not. He said "Wait and see at the end of the season". We finished 4th and got to the play-offs. Why, if we had one more point, we might have finished 2nd. However, it was not to be and Schards still was proven wrong with his prediction for a midtable finish.

Yes, "forseeable" is a nebulous term - had he said "near" he really would have been on the money. But you could argue that the forseeable future extends for decades, in which case it'll be a while before we know whether he was correct or not.

Given his comments referred to Coppell's tenure and for the forseeable future, not in the forseeable future. Never as far as I'm concerned because it simply isn't due.
