How good were Forest in the first-half v Newcastle?
It reminded me of the McGhee and 106 teams with football at a furious pace and they really could have scored 6.
Some astute signings by Billy Davies,a manager that knows this division so well, and the team is starting to gel.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them challenging this season under a manager who (apart from the spell at Derby where also Jewell's reputation was tarnished as is Nigel Clough's now)is proven at this level despite being notorious for time-wasting.

Tredder Adel Taarabt

you're being restrained so far Tredder. I guess you're waiting until after Tuesday's (unlikely) banana skin before gloating. Will we be in the same league as you next season?

cmonurz Probably not far off it. I've got a lot of time for Rafa, but to leave Mascherano on the bench with Gerrard and Torres already out, and to play someone like Jay Spearing, makes little sense at all (unless Spearing has genuinely been pulling up trees in the stiffs). Defeat next week at home to United and a) the league is as good as dead to Liverpool this season, and b) it'll be 5 defeats in 10 games, and Rafa's position may be under threat.

Unlike you I have no time for Rafa, but it's only fair to mention that Mascherano arrived back in Liverpool sometime on Friday after god knows how many hours travelling (and probably via Madrid, I don't know). I came back from Chicago recently and was wiped out for two or three days, despite it being only a 7 hour journey. His journey from Argentina/Uruguay must have been at least twice as long, so it seems sensible to me to give him only half a match.

But now, the beachball...Hoist by your own petard just about sums it up. Stupid kid - what did he think was going to happen to it?

And, to open another debate, what about Tim Howard not being sent off, or carded even, after cuffing Maierhoff? When Alliadiere just stroked someone's face all the crap commentators (yes, I mean you, Grey) blathered on about "if you raise your hands you've gotta go". I don't necessarily agree with that, but a little bit of consistency wouldn't go amiss.

Agreed re Howard - a booking at least, but he raised his hand, and to the head of his opponent, and by rights should have been off. And the replay suggests Maierhoff did little wrong in his challenge for the ball, and that it was Howard's reaction that got him sent off.

Agreed. At full speed you can see why the ref might have been deceived, but on replay you could see that Maierhoff didn't do anything wrong.

Anybody watch the Wigan game?
Martinez has been there for as long as Rodgers has been with us,has brought in 4 or 5 new players to replace Valencia and those sold halfway through last season and yet they are playing an attractive passing game just like Swansea last year.
Brendan however abandoned the passing game after about 3 matches.
McGhee stuck with it,why didn't Brendan?

Probably not, in the end, but it would be good if they could sustain the effort through to March/April as they did a few seasons back.

Ledley King continues to impress me, to perform as he does with basically no training, immense.

Due to Liverpool fans having a minutes silence for the passing of wind, nevermind anyone of note.

Self pity city, full of scum and their fans are a disgrace to football.

i think you are right with regard to 'spurs holding on to a top four spot...also think ledley if fit is an absolute world class defender:plaudits are handed out easily these days but king when on his game is without a peer in current world football.

Referee Mike Jones is set to be withdrawn from next weekend's Premier League fixture list after allowing Sunderland striker Darren Bent's winner against Liverpool to stand when it deflected in off a beach ball thrown on to the pitch by a supporter.

Bit harsh if you ask me....he had 3 other officials there too, they didn't know what the rule was either.

What's the difference between Colin telling everyone John Mackie racially abused Carl Asaba and Colin denying that any of his players racially abused Chopra at the weekend?

But he was man in charge and so must take the rap.

(By the way, there aren't any rules in football - only laws).

ALOL!

You can take the ruel out of the fox, but you can't take the fox out of the ruel.
