Its a bit of an indictment of Rodgers' selection policy so far that this question isn't one that anyone can really answer with the slightest conviction as there's never really been a settled combination to judge whether its good enough or not.

Its think its more of a justification of the kind of poop that we're all in (including BR) in that no-one's got the slightest idea if any of the players are a) just about adequate at CCC level or b) too shiiiite. There are also options: I can't remember BR's exact terminology, but something like: c) club class d) top drawer and e) world class. These don't apply in our case.

Anyway, I can't believe the original poster putting Cisse and Howard as a central midfield pairing - surely this is the sort of selection we've come to expect, along with the resulting 3-0 loss.

For what it's worth:

--------------------------------------------------- Feds
Kelly (Davies as cover) ---------Ingi/O'Dea ----------Mills----------Bertrand/Armstrong (Tabb as backup)Kebe--------------------------------Tabb-------------------Sig---------------------McAnuff
--------------------------------------vacant--------------vacant

We've got vacancies as Doyle and Kitson haven't been replaced. If we genuinely need to deploy 4-5-1 for proper tactical reasons, then Karacan (or Davies) plays and we push Sig further forward. If we have to keep relying on Hunt and Rasiak we'll probably be relegated.

Subs include: Hamer, Marek (with instructions to play further forward than the centre circle when he comes on), Hunt (when fit - but we haven't really replaced Lita), Cisse, Pearce, Karacan (he's good, but I think Tabb and Sig are better defensive/forward combo), Gunnar, Davies (bring back from loan)

Off on loan: Church (not shown he can score enough goals)
Jury's out (need to see how they play when the team settles down): Cummings, Howard, Rasiak
Sell (not performed/developed sufficiently): Long, Mooney

Here goes:
4-4-2
Goalie - Fed
RB - either Tabb currently,Kelly when fit or a new player in Jan (Cummings ship him out somehow!)_
LB - when (and if!) fit armstrong. I have gone back on my word about him but he's solid and defensively sound for the championship. Betrand has been alright but we need the back 4 shoring up.
CB - Mills
CB - Ivar
CM - Sigurdson
CM - Cisse/Tabb
LW - Mcanuff
RW- Henry
CF - Rasiak
CF - Hunt (when fit) or Church

I still have doubts about Ivar and O Dea at the moment and maybe come xmas i would cut my losses with Darren if he still flatters to deceive and perhaps purchase a new CB. Pearce frustrates me as i want him to come good but i just feel he is still some way behind. If Kebe can just gain some sort of consistency (pigs might fly) i would have him vying for Mcanuffs spot. I think we will cut our losses with Marek who has an undeniable talent but not in English football. I would use Karacan as an extra midfielder for some games playing 4-5-1 away from home. I think Long's time at Reading is running its course so it might benefit him to go to pastures now so that come xmas we invest in a striker that scores the tap ins so required.

Assuming I can recall short term loanees as stated, but disregarding long term injuries, I think there are a couple of possible combinations and formations.

First mainly for home:- 4-4-2 with a balanced midfield not solely reliant on wingers. I don't think we have the luxury for two proper wingers, it's too unreliable and too many players with a tendency to go missing.

GK: Federici - stronger performances in front of him and he's ok. Don't want to try Hamer out just yet
RB: Cummings - Haven't seen his worst performances, don't think we have a great deal of option
CB: Pearce - captain & organisational skills seem to have been missed, at least he gets stuck in
CB: Mills - close between him and O'Dea, he's scored more and O'Dea has made bigger mistakes
LB: Bertrand
RM: Davies - Quick and less likely to go missing and more likely to provide defensive cover than a real winger, good set pieces and long shot.
CM(D): Karacan
CM(A): Siggurdsson - good set pieces, desire and skill, most assists. Howard* & Matejovsky cover
ST: Church
ST: NHunt
LW: Kebe

................Federici
Cummings, Pearce, Mills, Bertrand
Davies, Siggurdsson, Karacan, Kebe
..............Hunt, Church

Subs - GK: Hamer, CB & FB: O'Dea, CM(D): Gunnarsson/Tabb, CM(A): Howard/Matejovsky, W: McAnuff, ST: Rasiak, ST/CM(D): Long/Tabb

*may be a better option than Siggy as more experienced, but I still don't really rate him much. Marek is a luxury in a two man midfield.

Second choice mainly for away. 4-5-1, an attempt to make us harder to beat, walking to draws before trying to run to victories.
AM sits infront of M and DM linking midfield and attack & supporting the striker, with M playing box to box and should be looking for opportunities to burst past AM, but also support DM defensively. Wingers tuck in slightly in a more advanced position rather than hugging the wing, but also need to track back.

GK: Federici - see post above.
RB: Cummings - see post above
CB: Pearce - see above
CB: Mills - see above
LB: Bertrand
DM: Karacan
M: Tabb
AM: Siggurdsson
RW: Kebe
ST: Hunt
LW: McAnuff

..................Federici
Cummings, Pearce, ..Mills, Bertrand
.............Karacan^, Tabbv
................Siggurdsson
....Kebe......................McAnuff
...................Hunt

Subs - GK: Hamer, CB&FB: O'Dea, DM: Gunnarsson, M: Howard/Davies, AM: Howard/Matejovsky, W: HRK, ST: Church

-------------------------------------Fed------------------------------------------

----------------Mills----------------Ivar--------------O'Dea--------------------- Pearce, Cisse, Armstrong. Always needs a right and left side

--Karacan------------------------Siggurdson------------------------Bertrand-- Wing backs with the Sig sitting.

------------------Davies---------Matejovski---------Howard------------------- Davies and Howard drive forward, Matejovski free to play.

------------------------------------Bignall----------------------------------------- Hunt, Rasiak, Church or Long.

Federici

Kelly (well is there any choice here, he certainly can't be worse even with a shoulder injury)
O'Dea
Ingimarsson
Bertrand

Antonio
Muffin
Tabb
Karacan
Sigurdsson

Rasiak

Subs

Hamer
Pearce
Henry
Robson-Kanu
Hunt
Church
Gunnarsson

Armstrong would be thereabouts, depends how his knee holds out...

In a better team Matejovsky may well get a start but in the position we are currently he is a luxury that more often than not misfires

Mad Dog's Ghost Sky say Hunt has knee inury and Rodgers expects him to be sidelined for some time. So that's probably him gone for the season.

we need a striker on loan prefrably someone todger has no input in

What is it with you lot and HRK? the guy is Kebe mark II.He's awful in the final third and falls over when the wind changed direction. As for Davies he isn't good enough yet.

442:
GK Fed
RB Karacan
LB Stretch (how we've missed him)
CB Ivar
CB Mills

RM Henry (as overrated as he is he can at least have an impact around the box)
LM Mcanuff

CM Howard

i think 4-5-1 is the closest we are going to get to win a game as we look so exposed in any other formation

Federici

Tabb-unless we go into the loan market, Cummins isn't good enough
Mills
O'Dea
Armstrong

Karacan
Howard
Marek

Kebe
McAnuff

Rasiak-void of anyone who can play up front, at least he gives us an option- jay simpson would have been perfect for this role

Hamer
Ivar
Gunnar
Cisse
Robson-Kanu
Hunt
Long

Nobody's gone for the same XI as Rodgers yet then.. though we didn't know NHunt would get injured :(

would people change their minds after anything they've seen recently?
