Yawn- its to be expected.
The sooner people start standing up for themselves the better- tell the stewards to get lost if you think you are being treated unfairly

If you tell a steward to get lost, they will probably throw you out of the stadium for public disorder or something. If you think a steward is being unfair to you then engage in a normal conversation with them, asking them on what grounds is their action justified. If they continue to be unfair to you then take down their details (look for a name badge or number) and mention that you will be taking the matter up with the stadium management. Now, you're turning the tables and singling out this particular steward. They can't throw you out as you haven't behaved in a disorderly manner. If they do throw you out then pop into the club reception and make a formal complaint.

As for people standing, this is a much often discussed subject in any football stadium. The club is required by the terms of their public licence to make sure everyone is seated (H&S etc) - not only this, but people who remain standing are actually obscuring the view of those seated behind. The ideal solution would be for clubs to reintroduce terraces in some parts of the stadium but this is probably never going to happen.

Agree with the above - and above all stay calm and measured, and do not lose your temper!

If you want to take action afterwards, raise it with the club, in writing, as soon as possible afterwards. If you do not get satisfaction from this, the next step is the governing body for the competition (usually the Football League, but it may be a cup game in which case it'd be the FA). if you're still unhappy with the above, and only if you've taken the above two steps, then you can take your complaint to the Independent Football Ombudsman.

This applies to all clubs, home and away and not just to queries about stewarding - all complaints can be handled in this way.

at a review this week it was decided that, if they can find the CD under all the dust, it will now be played after a shot on target

I do notice that they were up to their usual tricks with inept traffic management yesterday.

I was still in my seat at the final whistle and when I got to the car park they'd not stopped cars coming out of the car park - I challenged the kid manning the barrier, and despite the fact that could see cars going out of the car park into the midst of pedestrians he wasn't going to put that barrier down for anyone!

When I challenged him said that he would when he was told on the raido to do so - and that's a key part of the problem. The staff don't have the authority to make their own decisions, even when what they need to do is blatantly obvious.

I saw a Steward in the North Stand, which is a novelty. He walked up the stairs and back. I saw another one in the North West corner asking someone to bring his pint back from his seat to the concourse. Thrill a minute stuff.

Of course, none of this applies in the case of visiting supporters. Suddenly persistent standing becomes far less dangerous and anti-social. Indeed to enforce the regulations is then regarded as more of a safety hazard than the act of standing itself.

'Tis all b*llocks and it's just a pity that all the league clubs can't get their acts together and make a joint stand to ensure common sense and equal treatment of home and visiting supporters applies.

Fair play the Stewards in GU9 did an excellent job last night in quickly ejecting a group of Leicester louts who had somehow landed up in the UW. They spotted them even though they did not have Leicester shirts on. Mind you anyone singing in the UW is always a bit conspicuous.

Another away game and another game where there was a low-key stewarding presence. Once again allowed to stand unhindered at the top, and both parties went away happy.

Dirk, has there been anything said anywhere about lowering the profile of stewarding at games this season? Everywhere we've been this year we've had no problems whatsoever with standing (in "acceptable" areas ie, not at the front in front of everyone), average fan actions etc, and it's starting to make me think that maybe something has been said to clubs...

There were about 7 or 8 of them in the back row PP around seats 257 -263. They came in about 5 mins before KO and when the teams were announced cheered all the Leicester players and booed the R's. Initially i thought the nearest steward was ignoring them but he had obviously summoned the cavalry and about 10 mins into the game they were marched out leaving only some cans of Fosters as a momento.

Fair play to the stewards for getting the mass ejection right, but smuggling cans of Fosters in.....what an absolute bloody disgrace. Everyone knows that Fosters tastes of p*ss, the stewards should have confiscated their cans and replaced them with Carlsberg Export.
