Good luck at Chelsea.
Although wasn't Chelsea disgusted at our medical facilities at one point?

Don't know whether it's been mentioned but the decision to send Sonko back onto the pitch against Sheff Utd was one of the worst I've ever seen a physio make. I don't care how much he knows about injuries, how much Sonko might have pleaded to go back on (if he did) it was one of the most obviously serious injuries I have ever seen and sending him back onto the pitch was scandalous.

When Sonko went down in a heap the 1st time, he immediately raised his hand and waved, always an indication of a serious injury, he then hobbled about for 5 minutes in huge pain and discomfort on the touchline etc. etc.

Up to that point the big man had been a virtual rock for 2 and a half years but i suspect his career was effectively fcuked by Fearn's actions in sending him back on, thus exacerbating the injury he had already received.

I have no way of comparing RFC's record with injuries but it seems to me that we have had more than our fair share of long-term and recurring injuries in the last few years.

Good luck to him at Chelsea.

PS I know nothing about legs, knees, physio etc. but it's a rant I've been waiting to have for years and today seems a good time to let it out!

He's off in January.

Pretty sure I saw a job advert for an academy physiopherapist on the OS a while ago, they're probably replacing Jon from within.

Physios don't get it right every time, all the time. No-one does.

It's a bit simplistic to solely blame the medical department for injury-plagued players. Rather suspect that manager-power, agent-power and player-ignorance doesn't help either.

Certainly a big loss.

Already lost the fitness coach.

Odds on his replacement being a former Reading academy physio now working with Chelsea reserves?

Fern certainly held in very high regard by everyone at the club and wider world of football.

Top man as well, hope he enjoys Chelsea....

As for RR's comments there have been a number of comments from the club that Sonko's return to the pitch had no effect and the damage had already been done. Anyways as far as we know it could have been anyones call to keep him on as the physio has a head piece linked up to the bench.

Noel Hunt was injured before he joined us, Kitson and Little have continued to have injury problems, which given the physiques age and playing styles is hardly a surprise and Convey was utterly, utterly oxf*rd by numerous injuries which have pretty much caused him to retire.

Convey was too lightweight for top English football.
Played very well in the Championship season, but was eaten alive in the Prem.
He was no Sidwell in regards to strength - put it that way.
More like Sicknote Anderton.

Seeing as the EP article says that Luke Anthony will be promoted that's hardly sticking your neck out is it?

I still maintain that losing Clark was a big blow and our injury record since then has been mediocre. Before that we had a great run of being 'lucky' with injuries.

I seem to recall Convey doing just fine the few time he played in the first prem season. He just didn't come back from his operation the same player, whether it was confidence or what.. who knows.
