Smoking Kills Dancing Doe
Man Friday
Terminal Boardom How fickle can you get? One away win against Cov Reserves and a home performance that may have been reasonably pretty but still failed to generate any points.

Tomorrow is our biggest test of the season. The monkey is off Ipswich's back. Can we get a win at home?

I refuse to be sucked in by all the hyperbole of a few soundbites to the local media. Yes, I will be there to make noise and support the team tomorrow but I refuse to be carried away on an unrealistic as yet wave of over optimism.

ditto. If we lose it will be very inetersting to gauge the reaction of the "wave riders".

I think Brendy's point was more along the lines of actually giving a fcuk at the moment rather than saying that Rodgers is the man now after 1 win.

At the start of the season I didn't care. I really didn't. The last two games have stirred something inside us all it seems.

Still far from convinced that BR's style will work as a manager at this level, but I really give a fcuk about the game tomoz for the 1st time this season...

I think part of it is actually seeing some clear effort, desire and also nous from the players - that's not always been obvious in some recent matches.

He had my support at the start of the season, but he lost it through what I consider to be inept management. He has started to win it back by showing signs he has a clue what he's doing.

I want to like him because of his longstanding connections to the club and his obvious passion for us. But I can't because I think he's a prick.

I wouldn't go as high as that, but I see where you're coming from.

From the youtube interview you can tell that he doesn't only care. He's still absolutely loving this job despite being in a pretty poor position and he wants nothing more than to turn it all around. I really really want Rodgers to succeed, it would be very sad if we had to get rid of him. Unfortunately if relegation is a serious threat there is no room for sentiment.

Its not about optimism,or the one win,its about giving a oxf*rd,and feeling that connection with him,and the players. If we lose hes in trouble, but ill still be backing him. If it was all about winning and success id be supporting some other team.

Ian Royal I want to like him because of his longstanding connections to the club and his obvious passion for us. But I can't because I think he's an arrogant prick with delusions of grandeur so far above his station it's laughable.

Just added the bit you missed out Ian.

I would be able to stomach the bullshit he comes out with just a bit more if he'd actually had a successful career. He hasn't , he's not even a has-been, he's a never was. So all this nonsensical bollocks about him being world class is just pathetic.

It wasn't his fault his playing career never got started becasue of injury, but before he spouts on how good his "world class model" is, he should actually have a track record that proves it. Then again, had he a track record, he wouldn't need to be so damn gobby!!

I hate this oxf*rd with a passion so irrational that it makes my dislike of TB1, TB2, the ImpOSTER and the non-footballing Malian plank seem like long-lost loves.

We all have to start somewhere in our career.... he's not gonna stand there and say "to be honest, I'm just an ok manager, nothing special, my players are ok, not the best but I can only do as well as what I put out on the pitch" Jesus - he's got to at least be shown that he believes in himself and his players otherwise he will be out of a job!

Royalee He was beginning to lose me during the QPR game (I still didn't shout for his head or any of that nonsense, but I was concerned at the performance), but since then he's got more consistency with the team, played our creative players as opposed to the dross in the form of some of our 'senior' players and I'm very encouraged - hopefully we'll stick with Pearce, Sig, Marek, McAnuff, Karacan and Rasiak.

Consistency is shown over a period of time, not two games. Therefore we have not shown any consistency in our performances yet.

Agreed with the rest though.

I guess that leaves us stuck with only ever appointing managers with huge lists of trophies to their name.
Rules out Pardew, Coppell hadn't ever won a lot, Maurice Evans wasn't a great success before we gave him the job, Quinn and Gooding were just journeymen.

brendywendy ive started to feel that the manager really does know what hes doing rather than just hoping,
and i have started to really like the guy.
when we lose badly, and the crowd get on his back i feel quite defensive, and i ve started to really give a toss about it all.i may even sing brendan rodgers barmy army on saturday :o

I haven't discovered much - if anything - to like about Brendan Rodgers thus far in all honesty.

If we wanted a 'likeable' manager we could have appointed Cheryl Cole, or Stephen Fry or some cuddly media person.
Stuff it, I want an Alex Ferguson, totally unpleasant but able to deliver winning football.

I'd also wonder whether deciding whether to like someone based on 15 football results and a few minutes of interviews shows a good judge of character ! I've got no idea what R odgers is like as a person but if he delivers what PArdew (eventually) did he can be as unpleasant/shallow/false/egotistical as PArdew as well for all I care.

Sun Tzu - perhaps with regards to likeability I should explain myself a little better; I have found precious little to like about his tactics which have mainly been unsuited to the personnel we have (4-4-2 diamond without any width? Give me strength), his constant chopping-and-changing of the team and his choices with regards to substitutions (which I thought against Leicester were very poor).

The fact that he comes across as arrogant, insincere and full of spin to the media is - I quite agree - irrelevant to whether he can do his job properly, but when he is going through a bad spell it hardly endears him to the supporters.

Coppell came across (according to many) as dull, uninspiring and humourless. He wasn't actualy like that !
I'm not sure I recognise your description of Rogers, but then I don't listen to local radio. My impression of him is that he is young, very keen, a little naive and trying a bit too hard sometimes.

Possibly. I always think arrogance needs to be earned.

I think he has a way to go yet. He's not done anything that to me marks him out as a tactical genius. He's heading the right way and he's still well within realistic timeframes but I'd mark him quite hard - no higher than 4/10 still in terms of what he's done although I'm very open to that jumping very quickly if it turns out that he's being laying solid foundations and is now ready to actually start on proper contruction.

I just can't stand his manager-speak. I like his arrogance - or self-confidence if you will - but he is going to be insufferable if/when we put a run together. He's bad enough we we play well and lose.
