Icelandic striker on trial

by IcelandicStokie » 16 Nov 2009 17:45

Icelandic striker Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson will spend this week on trial at Reading. He was tipped for stardom few years back but the last couple have been a disaster for him in Denmark.

Interesting.

Very decent record in Swedish football but blighted with injury once he joined Hannover 96.

I guess this will go down as our attempt to solve our strikeforce crisis! :(

Rodgers said he had the international break coming up which would give him time to find the the loan striker he felt we needed!

The obvious question is, has anyone checked him out in football manager yet.

I look forward to being proven wrong but the clock is ticking, we have our next game on Saturday and it would be nice for the new signing to have trained with his new team mates before then!

Just how long do the club want/intend to continue to try and get out of trouble with a pathetically weak strike force and the manager bemoaning the fact that those we have got aren't taking enough of the chances that are created?

The cloth has been cut. Get used to the empty rhetoric and you won't be disappointed.

If this guy is on trial this week then I'm sure it will involve some kind of contact with the rest of the team !

Whether he is signed on we'll have to wait and see.

In the meantime the guys who have scored 4 in the last 2 games will have to soldier on ! I'm sure Church's goal for Wales will be forgotten soon enough as well !!

But is he any good ?

Why has he been poor in recent years ?

What sort of player is he /

Would really appreciate a run down from someone who knows a bit about him !!

He got a knee injury early in to his career in Germany which has set him back.

Except that he can't join from outside England on loan before January.

Thorvaldsson: Reading wouldnt sign me because I was a replica of Kevin Doyle

„This is what I have been waiting for and hopefully a longawaited dream will now come true,“ Thorvaldsson told Icelandic newspaper Fréttablaðið shortly after arriving in England yesterday.

Reading have been following Thorvaldsson ever since he made it big in Sweden in 2005 and come close to sign him once but opted not as he was regarded too similiar to former Reading striker Kevin Doyle.

„They thought I was too similiar to Kevin Doyle and they didnt see the need to get another player with the same attributes. But he has now moved on and hopefully I get the opportunity to fill his shoes.“

Thorvaldsson got to know german goalkeeper Robert Enke quite well during his stay in Hannover and he was shocked to hear of his death.

„I couldnt believe it. I was numb after I heard it, it struck me hard like for everyone else. He was a good man and its clear that Germany has now lost its best goalkeeper.“

Esbjerg: Serious interest from Reading

Esbjergs director of football, Niels Erik Söndergard, told danish media this morning that Readings interest in Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson was serious.

„Its right that Gunnar will be training with Reading this week and will take part in a friendly,“ he told Onside.dk.

„Reading approached us and I sensed a serious interest on their part in the player.“
