Shorey signs on loan

Shorey signs on loan for Forest.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 376008.stm

I know this is a strong position for us, and we're looking good for a charge up the league. But it still gives me a sickening feeling to see Shorey, Kitson, Harper and Lita plying their trade in the Championship for someone else.

Forest have a hell of a player now and at 28 I'd say Villa won't look to be keeping him.

It certainly shows that the 106 / 8th place team were greater than the sum of their parts.
Which is why it was totally inept boardroom management to increase the wages paid to this team from £12,000,000 to over £30,000,000 in wages over this period.

Sidwell on loan to Palace next?

The 106 team were a management miracle. And partly just a miracle.

They were similar to the Norwich team that beat Bayern Munich in that none of them went on to greater things ( apart from Sutton ).

But it's hard to criticise the boardroom. They saw performance and rewarded it . If they hadn't paid up, the players would just have left earlier. We were still one of the lowest payers in the top divsion.

Sidwell and Doyle are exceptions. Apart from that, every time one of the 106 team sinks back to their natural level, it only increases the standing of the man who gelled them all together.

laughable to suggest that doubling their wages upon promotion to the prem- when we more than doubled our income, was inept.its market forces.

in fact what has happened since just confirms- if we had not doubled their wages-all of those players would have gone to other teams, and we would have been left with a rebuilding job in our very first year in the top flight-probably reducing our stay there by one year, and definitely reducing our 8th place finish to a lower bottom half one.

i suggest not rewarding those players, not keeping them happy here- that would have been the inept thing to do.

It's quite misleading, isn't it. Made me think he'd signed for us.

 Read the thread, its developed along the lines of the value of the 106 team and not about Shorey specifically.

Increasing the salary may have been a bit dim, but really it worked well the first season in the Premiership and then was screwed by

a) SC failing to replace Little and Sidwell
b) Performances from some of th eplayers who seemed to think they were proven and could cruise it
c) SC showing too much loyalty to those players

loyalty to players who have proven for two season that they produce and deserve that loyalty isnt misplaced imo.
little and sidwell are two of the geratest players weve ever had in their positions- suggesting replacing them may have been more difficult than just going out and buying the best looking player you can afford

Re: a) - I think I'm right in saying that it wasn't for the want of trying. Simple fact is, players in and around the bottom end of the Prem/top end of the Championship didn't want to come to us so we had to look abroad.

Who cares? We've got Bertrand and Armstrong will be back fit eventually. We got Shorey's best years of his career.
