Years since I heard this, bring it back! Though, how to fit Madejski into the slot where 'Elm Park' was? Song just brings a smile to my face for a reason.

This has come out of our podcast so obviously I back Alan's stance on this.

The words won't be changed, Elm Park is part of RFC's history and would stay. Plus we've spoken to Kevin Girdler and he doesn't want the lyrics changed.

Dear Alan
I support your campaign to bring back the Royals Anthem.
I used to hear it as a boy at Elm Park and still love to hear it; so much so it’s on a CD made for my wedding!
The club did start to play it at the Madejski a year or two ago but they played it ages before kick off when most people were still in the concourse and at very low volume.
I hope they will listen to your campaign and can bring it back, play it much louder and time it so that it finishes just before the players come out.
Sing for the Roy-als!
Best Wishes
Adam

I really hope this is successful. There will be people out there who say it's cheesy, not a proper anthem and should be consigned to history but they're missing the point. It is cheesy, was never sung as an anthem but is part of our history. I think it would be great to bring back a little nostalgia to the Mad Stad.

No problem. My comment wasn't aimed at anyone on here just some of the comments on the getreading site.

Don't suppose anyone could post the lyrics?

It was 2.45, the place was alive,
With the Elm Park sound as we came to the Ground,
The crowd was still growing,
Exictement was showing,
When the kick-off came it was down to the game.

And the White, Blue, win or lose,
We're with you all the way,
We got a feeling this is gonna be our day.

And the match was on when they heard our song,
And if your with the Royals,
We know you'll sing along.

It's the heart of the town when you're there at the ground,
It's the atmosphere that makes you so proud,
When there's so much to play for that makes you feel sure,
The team needs you and you need them too.

And the White, Blue, win or lose,
We're with you all the way,
We got a feeling this is gonna be our day.

And the match was on when they heard our song,
And if your with the Royals,
We know you'll sing along.

.... Sing for the Royals!

I think that I would prefer 8 year olds screaming "Back The Boys" and making my ears bleed than ever having to listen to THAT drivel again.

Not only do we have the piss taken out of us because we can't fill our stadium but we have a club song no-one outside of Reading FC has ever heard of.

Royals Anthem

Should we bring it back?

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... als_anthem

Very nostalgic that's for sure.

Or would "Ashes" by Embrace be better?

Well?

I'd far rather have Ashes - couldn't stand Royals Anthem then and I still can't. And he buggered off to Devon - I've never seen him at a match since he moved. AND it mentions Elm Park and we're not there any more. Obviously.

doesn't mean he doesn't go to matches, but I kind of doubt it

I'll always prefer Ashes by Embrace which will forever remind me of 2005-2006.

Gets those hairs behind my neck going bonkers!

Why do people outside of Reading need to have heard of the club song?

I think the word you are looking for is association.

Glad All Over?
Z Cars Theme?
You'll Never Walk Alone?
Liquidator? (Best club theme ever imho)
Bubbles?
Local Hero?
Paper Roses?
Blue Moon?

There are loads. You hear the song/tune and associate it with a particular club. Who, outside of Reading FC has heard of the Royals Anthem? FFS, even Wigan have "Bring Me Sunshine" and how camp is that?
