Sadly, a really good player at his time for reading, and someone I had personally meet, and is a really nice guy has retired

I meet him on my 15th birthday when I a tour of the madjeski, one of my favourite days as a royal, sadly that day was when we lost at home to bristol rovers 6-0, i still blame myself!!

I meet him and the injured players in the treatment room, got some signitures etc, but Linvoy spent about 20 mins chatting with myself and me dad, come across really nice, had the time for us etc. he was built like a brick s house too!

I loved him when he was at reading, and followed him at popmey when he did play.

Spoke to him just prior to his move to Pompey, he was genuinely upset about leaving Reading, but for the sake of his career, income and family, he didn't have very much of a choice. A sincere, devout individual and a thoroughly nice bloke.

I best remember him for covering acres of pitch in record time and getting in a proper tackle, often leaving attackers looking around as if to say, "Where the feck did he come from"

One of the earlier cases of a very valuable asset being allowed to go for free because we weren't prepared to invest in the offer of a decent contract.

Back then some of the defenders of the club were doubting his ability to do better elsewhere. I also have a sketchy and possibly wrong memory of Howe himself stating in an interview with BBCRB that if Linvoy felt he could do better for himself elsewhere good luck to him.

All were proven wrong. He showed that he was a great player by spending most of the remainder of his career at a higher level than RFC.

Top defender. Always considered him to be a rock. No compromising and just got on with the job. Was sorry to see him leave, and i must admit, i thought he'd struggle at a higher level, but he's gone on to have a very successful career, for the most part, in a league above reading's, so fair play to him. Sad to see him retire, but from reading an interview with him, he seems pretty happy to be retiring at the top of his game, rather than filtering down through the leagues and fizzling out

I really can't help thinking that the club should have made Murts an offer to stay on as a player and to then take up this sort of role. And a Murts with only one good leg this season would be 1000 times better than a fully fit Short Cummings!

Sad news, the original 'wall', despite not actually been that massive. Under-rated by many during his time at Reading, and subsequently in his career. Making a fair shout of it as a Premier League football is a testament to his talents.
