Sheppard at least cared.

Nick Colgan wins for the worst spell of goalkeeping I have ever seen at Reading. The fact he could be a regular fixture in a 'decent' team by SPL standards for years after he left sums up Scottish football IMO

Long term/permanent players, yeah sorry SS. You win

Toss up between Colgan and Sheppard.

Sheppard redeems himself for an outstanding effort at Filbert Street just after McGhoo had walked out on RFC.

Colgan was, from memory, in "goal" and receiving no end of deserved abuse from the Cuckoo Lane end in that nadir of watching RFC. 'Nuff said.

Sheppard by an iron man run.

The "I've seen Sheppard catch the ball" t shirt tells it all. That needless collision with Dariusz still makes me wince.

He was so accident prone it surprises me that he didn't dive into the path of that spanner.

Focher Is it ok for me to add Gary Westwood to this please? He could not kick it over the half way line :|

Is that the same Gary Westwood that took part in our 13 game winning streak ?
The same one that saved a penalty (at Plymouth) in that run.

Not the worst for me !!

Its Sheppard by a landslide. Even in that one off good display at Leicester he crippled Williams didn't he?

It's obviously not fair to blame it all on a keeper, but Colgan's record here is an impressve one nonetheless.

28-02-1998 Football League Championship Crewe 1-0 Reading 0
03-03-1998 Football League Championship Stockport 5-1 Reading 0
07-03-1998 Football League Championship Reading 0-3 Port Vale 0
14-03-1998 Football League Championship Sheff Utd 4-0 Reading 0
17-03-1998 Football League Championship Oxford 3-0 Reading 0

That's P : 5, W : 0, D : 0, L : 5, F : 1, A : 15. Pts : 0

Its got to be Colgan -in his first game at Crewe he did something ridiculous (I cannot quite remember) and at Oxford he was dreadful.

Harsh on Hammond - had injury problems but when he played was OK - performed mircales in Cardiff cup game when we were outplayed by a team bottom of league 2. Also harsh to mention Westwood - yes he went bad towards the end but was one of our best players in 1985/6.

Steve Death had some really cr@p understudies in 1970's (John Pratt was one - mentioned in previous post) but I cannot remember names - luckily Death wasn't injured too often.
