"Driving into the City"-my you are a brave soldier to take a car there as an outsider.
Yes I have driven into and out of Liverpool countless times as well as walking and like a hell of a lot of cities in this country some houses are boarded up.
The interesting thing is that we are talking of houses-it's different from London,Birmingham and Glasgow where flats are the norm and where some of the lowest of the low live.
Try going into those flats sometime where the lifts don't work and I think you will start to feel that the streets of Liverpool really aren't so bad.

Rafael Benítez has conceded that Liverpool's title prospects were undermined this summer due to pressure to reduce the debt loaded on to the club by the owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett. In a frank admission .... the Liverpool manager also suggested the club are burdened by unrealistic expectation given a transfer budget that is unlikely to improve without new investment.

Out of the CL this season = huge losses.

After losing to Arsenal they are 5 points off a CL place.

Early to say, I know, but without a charge up the table some time and a hope that Villa, Spurs and Citeh can't maintain a challenge, then next year too they will be out. This would be a huge problem for them with their debt. Benitez would have to sell more than he can buy. Therefore Liverpool a worse team and so don't qualify again.

I for one am quite pleased with this prospect. The big 4 have for too long traded on money begetting money and now Liverpool could find themselves in the position of all the other teams who have to struggle by every year without CL money. If any of the other three start to go the same way then all the better. I grew up when teams such as Burnley, Derby, Ipswich and Nottm Forest could win the league. It would be really nice to go back to the chance of any one of 10-12 winning the title. Much more interesting and exciting.
