Ian Royal
Chaney Jimmy Kebe player manager

There are some who'd give him the manager's job just to stop him playing...

McDermott has taken charge and is doesn't mention the word "caretaker"

Reading Football Club can confirm that, following the departure of Brendan Rodgers today, Brian McDermott will take responsibility for first team matters forthwith.

McDermott has been with the Club since 2000, fulfilling a number of roles including a very successful spell as reserve team boss, guiding Reading to the regional and national titles in our inaugural Premier League season.

Royal Lady Who is that manager who just left Notts County after only 7 weeks in charge?

Why is everyone getting excited about Darren Ferguson - didn't he get sacked from Peterborough, because they weren't doing very well?? What's the difference between us and Peterborough?? Esp if we have no money to give a new manager for January. :|

Two successive promotions, oh wise one.

Has to be Ferguson - the only potential improvement on Rodgers that I can see us getting. If we bring in someone like Hart then relegation is sealed.

Mcdermott is a decent enough manager for our reserves but unproven at any level, I hope he can do enough to steady the ship.

*edit*

Ferguson is the obvious choice, as someone we asked to speak to in the summer and now being a free agent.

Steady the ship? He's about to be appointed I would think, or at least on a "trial" basis as with Kevin (who unfortunately failed).

He's been appointed fortwith, but I wouldn't have thought the club would risk someone with no no.1 experience... I've been wrong before I suppose.

This may be a bit cynical but can anyone see Mcdermott being put in charge in the hope he can turn it around with the current squad thus no more spending required in Jan? I know Rodgers has to be paid off but would that be less than what he wanted to spend in the transfer window?

Genuinely shocked at this decision particularly as it was mentioned to me recently via a source at the club that Rodgers will only go if he lost dressing room or results dont improve.

Personnally speaking i think events at other clubs as led to Rodgers sacking. With Laws being sacked, Wednesday are looking at a decent top target of which there are a few out there already mentioned who are not in work. Madjeski has been tipped off that he will lose one of his targets (if Reading situ worsened over coming weeks) to Wednesday, so he has brought forward the sacking. Curbishley, Southgate, Ferguson, one of them being lined up, methinks Ferguson, and he is now our no 1 target.

Gutted for Rodgers, decent man, but even I was losing my patience with him and the results.

Whoever he or she is, has to have good experience of managing at this level. The first question that any candidate is to be asked is what they would do with Kebe. If any of them even consider putting him near the first team squad then they should be automatically excluded.

My first choice would be Curbishley purely for his knowledge and time in the game. Whether he can get the most out of our underperforming squad is another thing. I would hedge against Darren Ferguson only because of his lack of experience at this level. Can we really take another risk along the lines of BR? I would also baulk at the return of SSC. The last thing I want is for his halo to slip. Unfortunately, the likes of Tisdale, Howe and others of that ilk would be too high a risk to take. It would be a disaster if we were relegated and I really want us to stay up now that BR has gone. Even if it means kissing goodbye to my £20 investment with Corals.

Other potential candidates would be those who have some steel about them. Our old friend Colin would do a good job. Tons of experience and has performed miracles pretty much wherever he has been. Just make sure it isn't Tony Adams and that the useless oxf*rd Hammond is nowhere in sight.

Ideal
Terminal Boardom Our old friend Colin

Funny enough, Colin has a habit of signing loads of strikers constantly. And just what is it that we are lacking? Strikers.
It would make sense :D

and bring Victor Moses with him!!!!

Rafa Benitez... likely to be unemployed in the near future. Not sure what he would make of the depth of our 'sqwad' though. But would be fun, just to hear him call a squad a sqwad in all his interviews...
