Royalee
Ian Royal McGhee, Quinn & Gooding, Pardew, Coppell.

Bullivant, Burns, Rodgers.

The odds are in favour of a good manager.

How do Quinn and Gooding qualify as good managers? Actually I'm not even sure I want to know, I struggle to get my head around even your most considered posts.

Kept our momentum going and took us to the play off final. No way an easy task. Kept us up for two seasons following the loss of all our best players, despite our very limited resources.

I class that as good.

Coppell's mess, get it right.

sometime think you dont know what your talking about i have repleyed to you many time you use coppell as a scape goat all rodgers has done is taken us backward get it right[/quote]

Coppell blew our future last season, then walked leaving someone else to sort it out. Brendan wanted to be at Reading and I am sure tried his best for our club. Some of the people that have posted on here will feel very good tonight, possibly feeling some form of victory. If you do feel anything, it should be sympathy. If any of you had taken on the substantial rebuilding job at Reading and worked as hard as you could to put things right, only to be sacked by mutual consent; how would you feel? I personally feel that Rodgers was appointed far too late to turn things around. January 2007 was the start of the rot that left us in this position. Coppell made huge mistakes that led to our relegation and repeated them again a year later with a squad of players who should have won this league let alone limped into the play-offs. I don't know who should get the job next and to be honest I don't care. Whoever it is will be left with an impossible task. A squad stripped of it's prize assets, a squad low on confidence who have lost a manager they believed in.

Hardest of all, will be the task of trying to work in the shadow of Steve Coppell with no money to spend from a Chairman who wants out.

Good-luck to the new manager. They will have my full support, as I am actually a supporter of my club and I think the now vilified Brendan Rogers was aswell.

Had money, failed. Paint it whatever way you want but he was sacked because he wasn't good enough. P.S. A Reading fan wouldn't of nicked players from our academy while at their world class former club.

Royalee, mate, you really are a tool - JQ & MG took us to Wembley on a budget a tenth of the size of your bum chum - Nogs was our record signing at the time at a mere £250k - Dearest Brenda spent TEN TIMES that on a bench warmer.

Also, you can't say re Dellor that he should 'listen to Mick Gooding' and then say 'oh, he's a bad manager!' - it doesn't work.

You my friend, are like the captain of the Titanic - your ship has sank, end of!

Kitson12
Royal_Belly I personally want to wish Brendan luck & success in his next role.... I hope that whatever club he ends up at he has the full backing of his chairman and fans (something which he did not get with us)

I personally was feeling quite positive about the way things were going and was looking forward to us going and beating a team 4-0 / 5-0 cos it was going to happen sooner or later with all the chances we were creating.

John Madejski has stitched Brendan up a treat! Our chairman in the space of 2 seasons has turned this club from being a premiership club to a league 1 club!

+1 One of the few with a modicum of sense in the thread.

Agreed......Rodgers was sold a dud. Hahneman, Rosenior, Murty, Duberry, Bikey, Harper, Hunt, Doyle, Lita were all got rid of at the end of last season with no real input from Rodgers. Basically this team is made up of last seasons also rans and some (very) promising youngsters. God knows who we will get next. I reckon we need someone with experience but that costs money and we don't have any!!

Ideal Everyone should be happy, this is a fantastic day. Our chances of staying up are now far greater than they were.
We'll get a new manager, and he will have time to assess the squad over xmas, then buy 3-4 players to strengthen, and we'll most likely stay up.
I feel upbeat about it, and from what I see on this board, most people agree with me on that.

Are you not even a bit worried about who Madejski will bring in? Whether our chances of staying up have improved or not surely depends on who we can get to manage the club.

I feel sorry for the guy - an experienced manager would have found it difficult selling the talent and then using a lot of very inexperienced players - however I dont think he was getting the guidance and support that he got when he was at Watford with Taylor.

That said he came out with a lot of hyperbole and talked himself and his team's mediocre performances up to ridiculous levels which frankly got on my nerves. If we played sh*t just say it - don't bullsh*t us. Maybe that's what finally got to JM.

Ideal Jesus Christ, what is wrong with these people?
They were braindead while Rodgers was our manager, and now they seem like zombies out for blood.

That some moron on here tries to make it out to be Coppell's fault that Rodgers got sacked, is just.. it defies logic, what sort of sick, twisted mind comes up with that crap??

Maybe some of us liked the football we were playing, not the results but the passing football. Some of us liked the fact that he clearly had Reading in his heart.

Maybe we'll be proved wrong but unless we finish comfortably mid-table still playing passing football then this decision will be wrong. Rodgers has made lots of mistakes but he did not deserve to be sacked. I hope you're saviour is half as better than Rodgers as you think because I think this disruption will does us more harm than good.

T.R.O.L.I.
Royalee Madejski best have someone good lined up.

In all seriousness, who's available?

Darren Ferguson
Martin Allen

Please God not Martin Allen.....I would seriously consider my allegiance to Reading FC of nigh on 40 years if he came back.

I didn't want Rodgers as manager and wanted him out but I have to say that now its happened I feel very sorry for him too.
He didn't have much of a chance really but didn't help himself. He must have known at the time of the Dellor interview time was running out.

Mixed feelings.

I was prepared to give him a bit longer, but was getting fed up.

Will miss
  • the style of football he was aiming for
Won't miss
  • not changing tactics to suit the players he had
  • Inability to choose a settled team
  • his strange substitutions
  • the money he wasted on duff players
  • his constant spin
  • not showing some class and keeping his mouth shut

I wish him well, just a shame he didn't come in as a number 2 to learn his trade.

RoyalBlue Should be interesting to see what financial backing the next poor victim gets from a Chairman who has lost interest, wants out and therefore isn't keen to put any money into things. Personally I think the wrong person has walked. Still, the longer Madejski clings on, the more people will begin to spot a common theme.

Best point of the day, well done that man

Yep, because Royalee has spent most of the season covered in Rodgers' mess......

People need to stop arguing about the past, it done, gone, not coming back. Coppell was fantastic, then it went wrong. I wanted him to do well because of his obvious love of the club, but Rodgers always had an uphill battle with the cloth cutting he had to do, and the meeting the expectations of fans due to the acheivements of Coppell. I think he should have had the season, but can appreciate that if he was going to be got rid of, now is the best time in order to give whoever comes in the best chance to arrest our decline.

Whoever comes in will face a tough time, but because Rodgers was our 'rebound' manager, the next one may have a little more slack... just keeping us up will now be a successful objective ...

I can't say I'm surprised because I thought he'd be given til the end of the year, so it's just two games off that deadline. We aren't playing that well and I could never be sure we were improving.

I feel sorry for Rodgers, not because I think he was sold a raw deal because I think our players are capable of more than they've shown in the last few months, but because I think this was a dream job for him. He may have talked himself up, but Reading is more his home town than anywhere else and he was a real Reading fan. What fan wouldn't want to manage their own club? I don't know what will happen to him now.

I'm guessing we'll get Darren Ferguson in because we wanted him in the first place and as far as I know he's free. I think he may do a better job of motivating and getting the players to play as a team purely on the basis that he managed to do that when we played them earlier in the year.

It doesn't feel like a time for celebration. I feel quite sad all round.

It's hard to move on, when the defence of criticisms against the current incumbant (or latest now) is that it's all the previous manager's fault and the previous manager did worse.
