Did excellent job with reserves, but I very much doubt he's a long term option.

Mcdermott is a nice fella with good banter.
He IS in temporary charge though.

Strange choice of words from the club though. "Indefinitely" sounds rather more long term than "caretaker manager" or in charge temporarily. Worrying actually.

Those aren't the words of the club, these are:

Reading Football Club can confirm that, following the departure of Brendan Rodgers today, Brian McDermott will take responsibility for first team matters forthwith.

Very interesting language. Sounds like Communications dept. speak for McDermott being the new manager if short term results go his way.

JM must be skint.

All the betting sites are backing Ferguson - down from 8/1 to 11/8!

Think people are reading too much into the language being used. Brian won't be doing it long term. JM knows the fans are at their lowest ebb right now & will get someone in.

It's no surprise we've acted now given that QPR, Plymouth & Sheff Wed are looking for a manager too & the transfer window is coming up. Giving Brian the job FT just makes no sense.

If JM is trying to do things on the cheap then why would he pay Rodgers off?! He would have just let us rot with the current setup if he didn't give a f--k at all wouldn't he?

Someone on another thread said BR was on 6 month probation period, and so JM doesn't have to pay him any compensation.

Cheap option.

Interesting.

They must have heard something.

Not sure about him, did a very good job at 'Boro, but they splashed the cash for the level they were at.

We need someone who is going to get the best out of a squad that have badly under performed, is that money avaliable? £750k wasted on BR, squad needs investment.

I just can't imagine acting now if someone was not lined up.

I'm guessing some cash must have changed hands. Rodgers would've covered his ass wouldn't he given he was leaving a club that didn't want him to go? Just a thought.....
