I hope McDermott gets off to a flying start with three points at Ashton Gate tomorrow.
No matter how things go tomorrow I'd bring in Ian Dowie next week. I've never forgotten how he took a Palace side, in a far bigger mess than you are, to promotion in a matter of months.
If McDermott does start well then I'd strongly advise that his position remains caretaker. He shouldn't be given any sort of permanency, not even Manager till the end of the season. So long as he is just "minding the shop" the players have to keep delivering. Over and over again I've observed teams go on good runs while a man was caretaking, only to have the form dip immediately the man is given the job officially. If McDermott does an outstanding job over the next few weeks then let him remain in charge, even until May, but let it be as caretaker.

Dowie's lost his way, in a big way since throwing that managerial double six.

What's he done since that, and how many clubs since then, no thanks

He is right though.

Alan Pardew doesn't get on with Madejski, has a better job at Southampton
Martin Allen doesn't get on with Madejski
Wally Downes crap as a manager, ask Brentford

Barring absolute spankings in the next couple of games, McDermott is nailed on for the job.

Ticks the most important box.

To answer your questions; he's behaved like a fool, and a morally dishonest one at that; and he's had three clubs as manager, plus assisted Shearer for a few weeks at newcastle. The only club he's spent any real time at since leaving Palace was Coventry, where he had just under a year. My view of Dowie the man, was coloured for ever by his behaviour leaving Palace. It's something when Simon Jordan is left occupying the moral highground. However, I still think there's a good manager in Dowie, and I'm sure he's a chastened man who'd realise his next chance could be his last.

West Stand Flash Stand out candidate???? Fck off. The only reason he is a candidae is because SJM is such a tight fisted c*nt. Any excuse to not pay anything. Worst thing to happen to this club is give him the job. Will be even darker days than under Burns, Taxi and Rodgers.

Bullshit. The reason he is a candidate is because he; a) is going to get the shot to impress & SJM is gonna get a free preview of maybe the new manager; b) worked closely with the team already and more importantly the team have worked with him; c) been at the club for 10 years, therefore knows & understands how this club works.

How anyone can write him off without even seeing a game is shocking form. We've got to AT LEAST give him 2 games.

and
West Stand Flash C'mon the Bristol City, big win please.

You are a tit.

In fact I'll go one further. I reckon all this about you being SDR's son is bollocks. You & SDR are clearly the same person.

That's funny, I have it on the authority of a friend of a friend of a friend who was at the Reading Christmas party that it's going to be Curbishley.

My mates aunts cat gets fed by the postman whose wife babysits Ivar's kids and I'm reliably informed that it will be Sanchez.

Ferguson / Curbishley - I would almost put my mortgage on either of these gentlemen getting the gig. I do 'know' 2 people at the club but both of those told me that Brendan wa safe until January!!!! - I honestly think his (latest) stupid 'we were outstanding' post match press conference (except for when Scunthorpe scored and When Crystal Palace scored 2 in a minute) cooked hid preverbial goose!

I would go for Dazzling Dazza as a long term bet, but I would be more sure that Curbs could keep us up. The Reading job is a fantastic opportunity for Fergsuon, less so, more of a stepping stone for Curbs.

Madejski though, likes his honourable, steady....and reasonably cheap foot soldiers, so who knows.

Overall gald SJM has acted, unlike Leeds, Man City, Sheff Wed & N Forest we may never get out of League One again if we were to drop down there.
