Back from the Game - Swansea (H)

by LoyalRoyalFan » 26 Dec 2009 18:06

There were a lot of positives from today's performance. It is a great reward to the club, to see the talented players that our Academy is producing. Gyfil Sigurdsson today was my man of the match. His technical ability is astounding and his set pieces are top notch as well. The same can be said about Robson-Kanu. Very gifted on the ball, whether or not he lacks that end product, likewise with Kebe.

Couldn't see why McDermott took off our only strikers today and replaced them with wingers. However compared to Rodgers, he got them working a lot better in the 2nd half. We're now creating chances, but still are lacking that striker.

Was a good performance. First game I have been to this season, I live in Swansea so thought I would go to this one. We started well but allowed Swansea into the game. I thought we stood off them too much and allowed them to play some very nice football, the move for their goal was suburb.

The goal right at the end of the first half gave us a boast and whatever BM said/did at half time worked, we looked the better side in the second half and were unlucky not to win. Kebe looked good when he came on but why the oxf*rd he didn't square it I do not know. Overall a good game and a positive performance.

It's just normal service resumed, we played well and created chances... but didn't score them.

We showed promise. Again, as we have done most of the season, but if we don't start putting away these chances we will not be comfortable come May.

Someone said this on the Radio.

Hal Robson Kanu is not a Winger, he is a striker that can play anywhere along the front line. He is big and on todays performance more than capable of being a target man.

Re: taking off Long and replacing with Kebe
At half time it was noted that we were being outplayed in midfield.

So one of our wide players Sigurdsson was moved into the centre of the part to Mark their number 7.

This meant that Long was moved out to the wing, to be replaced by Kebe if the formation change worked. Which it did.

But it also meant that Sigurdsson was very forward (as number 7 was very deep) so he could support the striker and get in the box when crosses were coming in, which is what he did.

Sorry did I miss something? If it worked then we must have scored a goal.

I thought it finished 1-1. So great news then we got three points insteads of one. Sorry guys the odd job boys obviously made a smart move but SDR must have nodded off when we scored the winner.

Bore draw involving Reading FC. Shock !!!

Cracks me up that nothing has changed since Rodgers left and all the d1ckheads on this board try and spot positives. You lot are laughable. This is the worst side we have had inje past ten years yet just because Rodgers has left and dumb and dumber are in charge eeryone changes their tune.

Today was very poor, normal service resumed.

Get a new manager pronto Egoman.

We managed to actually have some possesion in the second half, that's what worked. We were massively outplayed in the first half, inspite of the goal. In the second half things were much more even, possibly even in favour of us. We certainly ended up with more clear cut chances in the second half.

the only thing that changedin the 2nd half was the fact we actually hustled them for the ball, that said Swansea always looked comfortable in possession, we rarely threatened..nothing as changed, different game same old rubbish.

We didn't score but had far more chances in the first half. Apart from the goal, off the top of my head I can only think of one chance. It was obvious something was not working. We looked more in charge with 5 in the middle, remember our options are limited up front. Personaly I would have left Rasiak on but I thought Kanu did OK as a targat man.

Some people on here need to lighten up!

No, what changed was that we matched them up in midfield so we were capable of hassling them for the ball without having rings run around us.

Erm, it was alright wasn't it. Fair play to Swansea, they play some very good football and pull teams apart.....they are just devoid of a cutting edge aren't they. Reading are equally lacking in that position, the front two again today were utterly dire. Shane Long I have totally given up on anyway, but there is no excuse for Raisak - who has played at international level - to time his headers so poorly and win the ball so infrequently in the air, because it is not as if he offers an awful lot on the ground. Our front two were so utterly wretched today that we ended with not one recognised centre-forward playing for the last 25 minutes or so.

Someone sent a text in to Radio Berkshire this evening and - unusually for the dross that poses as vox pops on that station - called it just about right by saying that the fact that our best player was once again a stand in right back. Marek was his usual so-so self, wanting too much time on the ball. Gylfi was excellent, although he wasted a decent dead ball opportunity right at the end. McAnuff looked worryingly disinterested. Pearce had a far improved game. Nobody else took my attention really, other than the outstanding Leon Britton and excellent Nathan Dyer for Swansea. They are absolute certs for a top six place for me, so a point against them in our current predicament will do for me. A similar outcome is that absolute minimum required on Monday against a poor Plymouth side.

Nathan Dyer sought of went off the radar in the 2nd half, but looks a good talent. I thought Darren Pratley looked a danger for Swansea and full complements for their goal, fantastically worked and our defence couldn't cope.

I would rather Madejski got himself a new plaything pronto.

Given the tools at McDermott's disposal it wasn't a bad performance and result. However, that is the crux of the matter and the reason why McDermott and Gibbs are likely to struggle like Rodgers and Austin before them. As Mick Gooding pointed out, the way the the squad was ripped to pieces and deprived of quality, Sir Alex Ferguson, let alone his son, would struggle to succeed. Just as importantly, if you pay peanuts in wages you get monkeys for players.
