RoyalBlue As for Saint Madejski, it amazes me that some people still seem to believe that he did what he did for RFC purely out of the goodness of his heart!
Of course he didn't, any more than Graeme Murty did, or Coppell, Sidwell, Doyle, and any other legend of this club. What some people do believe is that Sir John has made a bigger contribution to the success of the club than any single one of those others, yet they are recognized as heroes and club legends, while a few folk here want to trash Madejski's name.

RoyalBlue Question:

Putting the convenient justification of economic climate aside, might the bank deciding that they wanted their loan back have had more to do with the Chairman stating that he wanted out?

No. He's been trying to sell for years.

Despite the ecomonic situation, I know for a fact that banks were/are still extremely keen to lend money to healthy, well run businesses with a strong management team in place. I work for one such business and the banks were happy to lend far more to it than RFC owed.

Banks base it on rather more than debt levels. They base it on the ability of the person/business to pay the loan back. Loaning Reading a huge sum of cash with staying in the premier being vital to us paying it back would be hopelessly risky.

As for Saint Madejski, it amazes me that some people still seem to believe that he did what he did for RFC purely out of the goodness of his heart! Yes, the club did (past tense) benefit significantly from his involvement but make no mistake, this was very much a mutualistic relationship. John Madejski got an awful lot back himself not least, as Mick Gooding pointed out on Saturday, through the way his profile rocketed. And anyone who does not realise that public profile is an extremely important driver in his life really is incredibly stupid.

If sure when he took over he was secretly thinking that running Reading could make him famous 15 years later.

I hear that Pontious Nick Hammond is now on BBCRB pleading non-involvement in the Rodgers' sacking/decision to sack him!!

So The Director of Football has no input on whether the football manager should keep his job or not?!!! Incredible!

Madesjki says he doesn't make decisions on his own and Hammond says he's not involved. So that leaves Madejski, Wood-Smith and Howe making the decision?

Such a well run club that they can't even work out who does what and who actually made the decision to fire the manager.

You might not be intelligent enough to work out that the moment you become Chairman of a professional football club your name very much gets into the public domain through the media but he certainly was. And it was a lot damn quicker than 15 years as well! At the time he took over, very few people outside of the Evening Post and the publishing business had heard of him. The local media had to run stories on who he was (immediately making him more famous). There then followed numerous mentions in local and national press, radio and tv interviews etc.

Why would the DoF have any more imput on a sacking decision that the Assistant Manager? He works with the Manager, on a par, he is not above him in the hierarchy.

And how many potential chairman will have 20 years experience or better in English football? Is it none? I think it might be.

Really? Who is the chairman of Wycombe? Or Tranmere? Or Brentford? Somebody with your apparently massive intellect should be able to see just how un-famous those people are.

Of course, if all you are interested in is finding as many sticks as possible to beat Madejski with, it's hardly surprising being divorced from reality is of little concern.

Maybe you could start a post suggesting his daft hairstyle and uncomfortable tv manner are preventing us getting a decent manager, and making us a laughing stock, and that's two more reasons why he needs to go.

I doubt the Chairmen of the clubs you mention have prostituted themselves to the media, nor have they had their grounds named after them but even so, I would wager their names are better known in their local community since their involvement with their respective clubs. In contrast Madejski stands in front of the cameras on the balcony of his penthouse suite and makes a point of mentioning that you can see the academy which he funded and which bears his name. And, of course, he fought like hell against the idea of having the stadium named after him.

The people who are detached from the reality of the prospect of League 1 football are Madejski and the people who still seek to justify his actions.

Protest for the Liverpool game...

by FiNeRaIn » 28 Dec 2009 18:15

Now taking suggestions. The management of this club cannot continue right from the boardroom to the pitch level. The fans need to make our voice heard and no better time than a full house against the scousers. Whilst we are comfortably losing the game we need a theme and some chants lined up to make ourselves heard and cure our boredom.

I'll be going on the Liverpool forums to ask advice later as they are great at protests, finding justice and celebrating anniversaries - no better group of fans to ask. Maybe they can join in as well?

Put some ideas down here about whether its a pants day, sausage roll thrown on the pitch day, inflatable day,etc Let the club know how you feel! If you don't agree with a protest then thats upto you, we respect your opinion but this is for people deciding on WHAT we are going to do, not WHETHER we are going to do it.

Cheers.

You guys should all plan to sit together. It'll be more effective than the odd random sausage roll sailing over the hoardings from here and there.

Not on Saturday, that game should be the last chance this season to enjoy ourselves without the pressure of our league position.

Plus the stadium will be full of plastics anyway.

Wait for the Toon game if you feel action is necessairy.

Yes, yes a whole row of people who are only brave enough to moan on the interweb. That will make quite an impression, especially as about four of them will be the same person.....

And the other is a Rangers fan who has no intention of protesting, just trying to wind everyone up.

I'll have you know I was on the pitch against cambridge a few years ago, slapping scott eustace on the back telling him it was nothing personal we are pissed with failing to beat a poor side.

As a result of that protest - we went on to have some good years.
