Post-match protests and Facebook groups, etc

by Dirk Gently » 29 Dec 2009 00:03

Anyone thinking these are likely to be a good idea clearly knows nothing about SJM, his attitudes or the way he operates.

As a "self-made" millionaire, and holder of 99%+ of RFC shares, he will not be told what to do - in fact, what he regards as a bunch of raggy-arsed fans protesting at him is likely to make him dig his heels in and do exactly the opposite to what you want.

Just thought you ought to know - before you try and influence something or someone, you need to understand it/them first.

I've already started writing my letter to our chairman - it will be well-balanced, well-reasoned will not contain expletives or emotive ranting, just the truth.

That may well be true, but he's a c*nt who holds all the cards and won't be persuaded by people shouting at him in public.

No, I just prefer to do my ranting on here - it's easier this way.

Exactly how much of his own money has he pumped into the club!!!! the way I see it...he is running the club just like a business and ensuring that the expenditure doesn't overly exceed the income...albeit subsidising any shortfall out of his own pocket...I don't have a problem with that..

Just a shame that some of the players we have are atrocious...and others can't quite grasp the fact that putting effort in often reaps rewards...but then that is because of the blight which is the premier league and the effect it has on money grabbing individuals...

Don't agree Dirk - JM is like a (strange) puppy. He wants to be loved and doesn't like it when the fans turn on him and I suspect he doesn't like having to talk directly to the fans. The pitch invasions in the mid/late 90s when he had to address the fans directly showed how much he liked that. He knows what happens if he loses the fans - no one turns up.

i don't have a problem either but sometimes when in this situation you have to take a risk, you take risks in business and if it comes through he will be quids in again. we need action with regards to a few million in january.

the players can't help it if they aren't good enough, as long as they put in 110% you can ask no more of them, and truth be told i saw that at the Swansea game!!

if we get relegated i have a feeling in my stomach that RFC will go into administration, JM will leave when fans don't turn up and so on....

Slightly assuring to know his sidekick Ian Wood-Smith was sat in the away end today. There was a lot of disgruntled fans at full time and providing he was still there come the full time whistle, I would imagine JM will just be made fully aware of the booing and chanting.

Fair enough - that's your prerogative not to agree.

But from what I know of him he's smart enough to realise that all that will get him the love of the fans is either to pump lots of money into the club or to sell up immediately at a massive loss.

Neither is going to happen - for the simple reasons that he currently does not have any liquidity (i.e. any spare cash floating around) to make the sort of investment being called for by protests, and also that no-one wants to buy.

The only hope is for him to realise that the value of his investment will fall with relegation, and so he should invest a small amount to make that happen and so safeguard the value - but he's certainly not going to be persuaded to do that by head-on protests, facebook groups, etc aimed directly at him and so critical of him.

He can't be very smart at all if he thinks those are the only two ways to succeed.

Those are the only two things being called for.

This is the next "Rage Against the Machine".
When SJM sees the huge swell of support for this Facebook group he will pack his bags and run away with his tail between his legs.
Current members: 16

I would be embarrassed if I thought that anyone will actually do anything.

Q: What's got 16 members and an average IQ of 50?

Literally not - it's all tied up in investments and construction projects etc, like Station Hill. As well as that, his other businesses are hemorrhaging money - he doesn't want another one to do the same. And what would £2 million do, anyway - a £2M player would have wages of another £2M+ over the 3 years of the contract, so that turns it into over £4M.

I understand the liquidity issue - but as you say he's a self made man. It's his money at stake and he knows that. In the past he's spent money tactically and avoided relegation/drastically improved performance (I'm thinking in recent times buying Butler and Robinson, and Kitson) so i don't believe he won't in the future.

However I think the problem is that he needs to understand that with this team we need an experienced manager who can manage on a budget (...someone like Steve Coppell for example...!) not another cheap option. That for me is the thing that will define our season.
