Matt Mills

by M-U-R-T-Y » 03 Jan 2010 15:57

I saw a lot of people slating him on here last night, I can't really fathom why. I thought he had a more than solid game against one of the best forwards in the world. He was quicker than Ingimarsson, and hit some decent balls forward.

He needs more games. An extended run in the first team would do him well, I think.

He did well, though there were signs of rust. Some good distribution and also some wild hoofing.

I was surprised he was starting, very surprised that he played as well as he did, and astonished that he should be getting much stick for that performance.

From what I've seen he should be the second name on the defensive team sheet (Bertrand, obviously gets first ink)

I rated his performance too. There was one delightful pass from the back out wide in the first pass. Can't remember if it reached The Sig or McAnuff.

Pretty sure it was Sig.

Tbh i thought he had a good game. Solid in the air and played a few good balls out from the back. He needs a run in the team thats all. One game every month isn't going to prove anything. We wouldn't have spent £2m on him if he didn't have talent.

All he needs is a decent right back and a CD partner with some pace. Add a fully fit Stretch and we have a half decent back line.

Could we not bring back Rosenior? Would currently be better than having Gunnarsson at right back.

I'm not sure if we can recall Rosienior, doesn't it depend on the agreement between the clubs? I wouldn't say no, though.

I was saying yesterday at the game that the "removal" of the likes of Murty, Harper and Rosenior were less to do with money and more to do with how they would have reacted to the nonsense that we endured since the start of the season. They were moved on to shut them up. Can you really imagine Murts and Harps being happy with the way things have been going?

Thats all very well, but if we had a team, with Murts, Harper and Rosey in etc then we would be setting records... Oh wait...

Gunnarsson did play well at right back, but its not his preferred position AND a few of this through balls I could see coming, were cut out! Ros mixed with McAnuff could we destructive, maybe?

He got slated by people who weren't at the match - always the worst judges of a decent performance. They're the kind of people who say 'Karacan - 5 - didn't really notice him' just because he didn't score a goal.

Back to the subject matter, Mills was solid and did all that could have been asked considering the lack of playing time that he has had.

Now, Rosey and McAnuff on the right would be worth seeing. May be shades of Murts and Blakey :D

You know things are desperate at right back when you're saying you wish we could have Rosenior back.

Personally I think Cummings could equal Rosenior in quality (different flaws and strengths), but he does need a run in a settled team with some experience and quality in the centre and a winger willing to help him out before he'll come good.

Mills looked solid to me on the TV.
Clearly lacking match practice but he looks like a more reliable Bikey...

Him and Pearce are both players with potential, and obviously they need games to realise that potential. Both have different qualities, Mills is quicker than Pearce and would add something different to the backline than the past-it Ingimarsson does. It just seems logical to have him and Pearce as first choice centre backs.

Pearce will never forfil his potential because 1 thing will catch him out for the whole of his career, he cant run.
