I do think it's a bit futile comparing records like that, even when you're comparing managers with similar length of service, because every clubs situation and liklihood of relegation is different.

I don't think Rodgers would've got us relegated as it happens, but we would've been looking over our shoulders for the rest of the year. I don't really think Coppell would've done much better this season either, largely because he didn't want to be here and wasn't up for the fight.

That comes over to the players and they drop off with it and I'm sure that had a lot to do with our downturn from finishing in 8th (and not showing the ambition and drive to go for Europe) and then eventually throwing away automatic promotion with dire form post New Year 12 months ago.

It may well have been very different under Coppell, but I don't think it would've been any better in the short term and certainly not in the long term.

I'd have Coppell back tomorrow.

But it isn't going to happen.

Coppell was very, very diplomatic in his interview on saturday; never say never, and 100% support for Brian McDermott - BUT - clearly neither party (SJM or Coppell) have made nor are going to make any move for him to even chat about the possibility of his return at this time.

And whilst I would have him back, I think we shouldn't try to relive past glories no matter how recent; things have changed and can't be recreated.

So with regret I would say that he is and always will be an RFC legend, but we have to move on.

Incidentally, the chants towards Coppell on saturday were genuinely moving; it was if we were finally able to say goodbye to the man.

I'd not have him back - it'd be a backward step, akin to last year's "clutching at straws" move of bringing back Kitson & Little. Even more so as partly where we are today is down to him - but I don't want to give Royalee unnecessary ammunition so I'll say no more in public on that.

SC's success was the culmination of a long building process. He's just not the miracle worker some people seem to think - and although I can see him coming back sometime, I can't see it happening for at least 3-4 years.

Agree wholeheartedly, but with a smaller time window without him.

We definitely won't be his next job.
