Royalee Should've signed Volzy instead.

Volz is a good player, but i'd presume that he'd want a fairly high wage and he is vulnerable to injuries. Griffin is the right choice IMO.

He's just been on trial at Schalke. They decided not to take him on in the end, but if he can garner serious interest from a team with a good chance of winning the Bundesliga, I think Reading are a little small for him.

Volz is a H U G E Hassellhoff fan :o

I assume that it is Andy Griffin we have signed and not Nick Griffin. You decide!

As much as we need a decent right back, what a joke. Poor peice of business. Journeyman defender, how boring

This proves the ambition that the club has to reach the Premier League.

Well I will be expecting a similar soundbite from the madman.

Slow, fat, looks older than Graham Kavanagh, never hits the byline, tries hard though.

But at least he's a full back, so fair dos.

Yeh, nice one - if you run out of actual evidence to back up your unpleasant, repetitive agenda, just make shit up.

I'm just pleased we've got someone other than moonlighting midfielders in to support the nervous boy who's our only current right-back, to be honest.

My Stoke fan mate has this to say:

'He's a good solid right/left back. Will do an excellent job for you in the Championship, but no longer Premiership quality. Can lack a litlle bit of pace, but is very experienced and reliable. Can also score the occasional goal too. He has heaps of experience and will also marshall your defence if it needs to be. Was club captain for a time too.'

Seems a good move to me, solid, experienced at this level, not a massive ego etc.

Now we just need another striker and a winger and I'm happy

Could prove to be invaluable.

:?: That's the usual bullshit Madejski comes out with per signing.

This is a good signing, with the bonus that Jay Tabb is now freed up to bolster the midfield when he gets over his injury.

He's a good right back and will do well for us this season.

and he's only 30 ffs. You'd think we just brought in a 37 year old who'll need a hip replacement before being passed fit.

He's a good signing!

And who gets dropped so that Tabb can play in midfield?

Griffin may well prove to be one of the more shrewd signings. I imagine that his determination and strength of character are what we need right now. To complete the back 4, a CB with a bit of pace would not go amiss.

First XIs aren't set in stone, so I was really referring to the midfield "squad". But it depends on the game - I see JT as more Howard-like, so when that type of player is called for rather than a Cisse, he'll be another option for us.

In the Chonicle article McD confirmed it.

Royals caretaker boss Brian McDermott told the Chronicle: "We've signed Andy on loan for the rest of the season.

"He hasn't played much for Stoke City so he's been training to us and he looks good.

"He's a hungry, experienced right-back and he's done well at this level before when he captained Stoke to promotion to the Premier League.

"He's still only 30, he's a good age and it's a good signing for us."
