Win the Cup or stay up?

by Man Friday » 14 Jan 2010 12:34

OK, it's not going to happen (win the F.A Cup that is) but, just for a bit of "fun", if you could only have one, what would you rather have: Win the F.A Cup or avoid relegation?

Personally, I'd sacrifice going down to get our hands on our first piece of serious silverware. It's what I've dreamed of for more than 35 years now. After all, we could (soon) get back up again but nobody could take the Cup triumph away from us. By the way, simply gettingto the Final is not a good enough incentive to sacrifice staying up.

100% Win the FA Cup - We have never won the FA Cup and we got relegated in '98 and gained promotion back to the championship in 4 years.

Also, relegation = more grounds to tick off the list so it's a win-win situation

Go up and win the Cup.
Anything else is just failure!

I asked my partner this exact question last night... I would much rather win the Cup. It's a once in a lifetime thing to achieve - Reading could easily at some point in the future achieve promotion to CCC should they get relegated.

The infrastructure & facilities we now have would mean it would only be a matter of time before getting promotion again.

Really hoping we get revenge on Burnley & I'll be there cheering them on.

Pompey won the FA CUP 2 years ago but what are they remembered for now? If we can stay up our young team, with a bit of experienced loan help, can be mid to upper half next season, maybe playoffs the season after. Use common sense, staying up must be the prority

Yes the priority, but I still voted the cup. As everyone else has said, it's a once in a lifetime experience. Not that we'll do it.

In 30 years time they'll be remembered for winning the cup.

Southampton won it in '76 and that's what I think of when I look at them, same with Lawrie Sanches, Vinnie Jones etc.

Getting to the quarter finals would be achievement given our history in the cup! We have only been to the 5th round about 3 times in 70 years!

The 12 people who voted 'stay up' want flogging with a knotted rope.

How would people have voted two years ago though? Still the FA Cup for me.

I would still have voted for the cup win, a vctory in any competition is always remembered, a season in the prem, not so.

Silverware > Championship
Plus, if we get relegated then we can get another piece of silverware - the League One Champions!
