Richi Royal ...has a team reached the the final or semi finals and been relegated in the same season?
Middlesborough reached the final of both the FA Cup and League Cup and were relegated from the Premiership in 1997.

CMRoyalLUX those with all this "you know nothing about football" posts, surely you experts recognise that the FA Cup is a sideshow nowadays. I could name every Cup final from the 70s and 80s, but have to think hard to remember who holds it now. In fact I do not know who the holders are. Chelsea?
That's age.
Ask younger people about the post-80s stuff - they'll know.

windjammer Pompey won the FA CUP 2 years ago but what are they remembered for now? If we can stay up our young team, with a bit of experienced loan help, can be mid to upper half next season, maybe playoffs the season after. Use common sense, staying up must be the prority

winchester_royal Let's not forget that winning the cup would also get us into Europe.

Barry the bird boggler Staying up every time as the league is always the most important thing.....

Pseud O'Nym Well I want to win it and stay up!
If forced to choose I'd have to go with staying up as I suspect relegation coinciding with the end of parachute payments, in current financial climate, might well prove disastrous for the club.
I'd like to see Pompey win it, get a place in Europe and then go bust. Watch the various governing bodies try and sort that out.

Ian Royal How about Pompey win it, beating us in the final. Go bust and get wound up partially due to illegal / fraudulent finances. Get stripped of the trophy, which is awarded to us and the European place goes to us as well, despite us being relegated.
Oh, and they only beat us (2-1) thanks to two extremely dodgy and suspect goals. Just so we can claim that we should have won it anyway.
