No Hoops
Row Z Royal Howard can, basically, piss off.

+1

Didn't like him from the get go, don't know why just didn't.

I'm quite upset to have someone who says "get go" supporting my post.

Row Z Royal Howard can, basically, piss off.

Thought the worst when I heard he was taking it. How come int he absence of Gylfi a player who has only scored one (consolation) goal for us steps up to take the pen when we had strikers on the pitch??

Howard had taken penalties for Barnsley in the past so it wasn't as if he's a novice. I've heard that Camp was off his line too.

He did come off his line early, yes, but the ball was hit weakly

I said Howard was an average Championship player when he signed and a Rodgers apologist said he would prove me wrong. I'm still waiting for him to do so.

Even the best players miss penalties.

Are people annoyed because he missed or because he's shite?

NEVER let left footed players take pens, they just seem to miss so often.

The better the player, the less chance of them missing. Perhaps that also answers your question!

No wonder he scored those two.

In the first case the keeper had completely blurred vision and he took the second in the middle of an earth tremor! (apologies if anyone regards that as in bad taste given what happened in Haiti.)

By the sounds of all the reports I've read so far, we were denied at least a point by a magnificent Camp.

The worst thing about todays result was the other results went against us, so even if we win our next game we stay where we are in the table. I can't believe Ipswich snatch a lucky win after Coventry get an injury time goal.

We now need to put together a series of wins to get away from the relegation zone.

Please explain why (and note that I didn't say great players can't/won't miss). I can pretty much guarantee that any of RFC's team would miss less penalties than me (to take an extreme example!)

Top players tend to make a point of practising more for starters. And if anyone is daft enough to claim you can't improve by practising then they really are a fool!

Incidentally, what I heard in the commentary would suggest that Howard wasn't confident about scoring when he stepped up to take it.

Nothing more to explain other than to ask you to think back to all the great players who have missed penalties in recent years alone. It's a lottery. Admittedly, a lottery more in favour of the penalty taker, but a lottery all the same.

And of course practising helps, but what evidence do you have that he doesn't practise pens every week?

And I would put £100 on even the lowest of Readings team to score more than you at penalties in any given situation. Be it in front of a large crowd or on a park pitch with one man and his dog watching. That's not to say that you wouldn't win. Of course you might, due to the fact that penalties are a bit of a lottery.

Taking penalties is a pretty unique skill, some are good at it and score at a good ratio and others just cant handle it

There are plenty of good players who just dont fancy penalties because they arent very good at it. That doesnt make then worse players than someone who is

Personally speaking I don't rate Howard and that's nothing really to do with the pen. It was a poor one having seen it on SSN. I haven't seen 1 game where he's played where I thought he's played really well. He isn't bad from dead ball situations, but I feel Reading have and had far better options already here than Howard. He was a waste of money and wages, like a few of knobhead's signings.

Sorry AP. This is the first time I can disagree or question one of your statements. If a pen is not a dead ball situation what is it?
