brendywendy 'greed, did nothing wrong, and lots right at the start of the season,
tbf id rather lose marek..........

I agree, Marek is a quality player and I think Davies will be.
Marek never seems to have really settled properly and Davies does deserve a proper chance with us before we get rid.

I'd suggest that telling Wycombe we don't want him to stay on loan there any longer is actually a sign he's in our plans.

I reckon we told them he wasn't staying on loan, they asked about buying instead and we told them his value to us. Which is going to be at absolute least £500k. He's in his early 20s. He's got bags of pace. He's excelled at Conference, League 2 and League 1 level. He's got a good set piece and he scores goals for fun.

Personally I think we're actually talking closer to £1m for Davies to de sold. Probably not that much, but not far off.

Hmmm so we value a player that has played at level 3 and 4 at just under £1m, but we are expected to sign players to play at level 2 for less. I don't agree with evrything that JM does, but he has more idea about football and values than many on here.

SD is worth about 200k, with a sell on clause,no more in the current financial climate.

I would tend to agree and think we would be a bit mad to sell him for that. We do arguably have too many midfielders and personally I would much rather Marek went and we kept Davies. Marek plays a good game one in ten and is not consistent enough, whereas Davies always gives 100% and has room to improve. Really hope we don't cash in on him - would be a mistake like Cox (oh how we could do with Cox now!).

One player doesn't make a team.

Davies' price is as much about his potential as anything else. It is very very rare to find a player of his age who has excelled over a significant number of games in every league he's played in from Conference to tier 3 and played well and looked good in a handful of tier two performances, combined with pace, goals and set pieces

Young strikers go from League One for over £1m. So I see no reason for a goalscoring midfielder with age on his side not to have a tag heading that way.

We don't HAVE to sell him. He's likely to be fairly close to first team plans - especially baring in mind a potential relegation - and he's got a pretty good reputation.

Can't help thinking this could be Simon Cox all over again. He has potential to be a great Championship player and if we did go down he'd be invaluable in getting us promoted again. Just who at the club thinks it's a good idea to sell him? Really short-sighted IMO.

As has been written a few times in the thread, probably no one.

Davies is ok, but not half as good as some on here seem to make out

He has potential, but I cant see him being a top end Championship player, but I wouldnt sell him just yet, but realistically we might need to just to get the right balance in the squad for the rest of this season

Not good enough, however as we're planning for next season in league 1 then we should keep him. If we actually plan to stay up, then I'd sell HRK, Davies, Pearce and Henry, as none of them are championship standard.

Gordons Cumming I think he's another Simon Cox.

Which one?

I agree, if we lose Davies, or indeed Henry or even Bignall, there's a chance they could come back to haunt us.

Or, of course, they could be a Louis Soares or even a Curtis Osano.

From what i've seen of Davies before he went out on loan reminded me of what we've missed since Sidwell left, someone with a bit of bite and hunger in the centre of the park who can score and make things happen. I was really surprised to see him go out on loan, as good as some of you think Marek is he gives the ball away 90% of the time, doesn't track back and can't tackle for toffee. Davies doesn't! As controversial as it may sound, i'd pick Davies ahead of Marek any day!

I would much rather see Davies lining up for us than that useless twunt Howard. The problem as I see it is that you cant squeeze Davies, Karacan and the Sig in CM when we play with 2 up top. THe only way all 3 can play is with Sig on the left. Stick McAnuff on the right and we dont look too shabby. Alternatively, give the start to either Sig or Davies and tell them to run themselves into the ground so can be replaced by the other after say 60 minutes.

Davies could play on the right...

Or argueably, with Sig & Davies in midfield you are less reliant on strikers to get goals so you can more afford to drop one and go for a lone striker.

A midfield containing all 3 of Sig, Davies and Karacan would get walked through by a half decent midfield in this division. Not because they are bad players, but because you need a bit of experience in there to hold things together and direct the game a bit

Sig needs to play on he left where he can just drift in and create things. He needs a bit of freedom and we cant afford to have that in the middle of the pitch without both a much better defence and a much better player alongside him to cover the gaps

But do we have a striker good enough to play that lone role? Like the thinking though. With SD on the right would that force McAnuff to the left? Anything to keep Kebe out of the side

Not the "experience" question again? So wtf have has Cisse and Howard got? Not exactly setting the world on fire are they!

Howard has done ok, and gives the side a bit of a voice and niggly when its needed, but obviously that experienced player has to be good enough (and fit enough - not Gunnar) to deserve their place in the side

Cisse just isnt good enough, and the lack of a decent experienced midfielder is one of the reasons we have struggled all season
