Maguire I would say it probably isn't one of the best Arsenal squads. There are some brilliant players in there and they're awesome to watch, but I can't help but think of the days of Henry, Bergkamp, and Robert Pire, not to mention a couple of rough and ready centre-halves and even Ashley Cole (left-back is a bit of a weakness at the mo).

I'd love to see them win it because (cliché) it would be a triumph for pure football over the power of the £. Fabregas is a genius, but I think they miss Van Persie or another goalscorer too much.

This^^^. But I still hope they win the league this season. Chelsea and United are not a patch on what they were last season - even if they dispatch teams like SunderLOLand and BurnLOLey without a problem, which is what has given Arsenal a chance.

Hope they take the chance. I have a feeling they won't but with them in the title race it makes it more interesting.

Nope.

I can think of at least 3 squads.
You will have to keep thinking about any squad let alone Arsenal's that would top the Invincibles!

In the original post the point was made that the current first team would not have matched up to the first team of The Invincibles.
It's the fringe players that have got Arsenal into this challenging position so the strength of overall squad must be pretty good to do so well.

Compared to the side that went unbeaten for a whole season. No.

Very good young squad at the moment, though.

I'm not sure becuase you can criticise many areas of the team:
Fabregas is beginning to look like their Ronaldo, and they are not the same without him;
the strikers aren't quite there - Arsshavin is hit-and-miss and Eduardo is just a sympathy pick;
Diaby never seems to be playing in the right position;
so many injuries;
English players always disappoint.

However, overall, there is something great about them, that none of the other Premiership teams have, and Wenger is clearly a genius.

I saw some of him playing for Croatia before the injury and he was so sharp.

I think he'll probably end up moving off sooner rather than later but its such a shame that he was so badly injured.

I agree with you HM-individually they have been strongly criticised all season any yet here they are just about top of the league.
Almunia-not good enough
Gallas-past it
The other centre-back-too small
Midfield-lightweight
Up front-no 20 goals per season striker.
All of these things have been said whereas pundits find so little fault with either Chelsea or Man Utd..
The obvious point is that Arsenal teams under Wenger play in a certain way whereas Chelsea,Man Utd and Liverpool(last season)all relied on star players to have a big impact on their team rather than function as part of a unit.

Arsenal may not win anything again this season but there is something special about the manager where (like Barcelona but unlike most other clubs)all players are encouraged to play in a certain way and that way is easy on the eye and, as Barcelona have shown, can also be successful.

When Arsenal beat us 3-1 the other season at home, they played some of the best football I have ever seen.

Thought Arsenal were extremely lucky to get that result on what I saw last night. The decision for the 2nd goal the equalising goal was an utter disgrace. They don't convince me. Defensively apart from Vermaelen they are dire and will drop stupid points throughout the season because of it. 2nd or 3rd for them I reckon. I hope they win it personally but unless they improve their backline and get Van Persie back asap I don't think they will.

More cheating by Arsenal. Gallas stamped on a Bolton player's foot and they proceeded to score the equaliser from there. Gallas should have been sent off.

Saw the extended highlights on Sky-they could have scored 10.
The Gallas tackle was a yellow-card offence but the ref didn't give it.
People don't remember HOW teams win things-the best example is probably Man Utd's treble which could well have been just a single if Bergkamp hadn't missed the penalty and Bayern Munich hadn't hit the bar to sew the game up.
Such is sport.

Arsenal produce consistently good squads, to a large extent down to the brilliant Wenger and their scouting system. This team may be one of the best, but it would be at about number 6 or 7 on the alltime list for me (and I'm talking about past teams that I have seen, I can't comment on the 70s or 80s).
