Ian Royal scores goals for fun.

Personally I think we're actually talking closer to £1m for Davies to de sold. Probably not that much, but not far off.

4 goals in 17 games for Wycombe? Hardly scoring goals for fun but if comparing with our current crop of players you have a valid point.

A goal every 4.25 games. And that is only one short loan period.

I'd say the 27 career goals in 89 starts is a pretty darn good scoring rate. 1 every 3.3 games.

How many players go for anywhere near a £1m with that scoring record in the Conference and League 2 though Ian?

Not disagreeing that he has potential, and has a good goals per game record for a midfielder (of any sorts), but you just don't get teams paying that kind of money for players at that level, even if they are quite young.

Anything near £500k would be a top whack price for him at the moment. I don't think we should sell him though.

His price tag should reflect his value to us though. And I would expect it to be a minimum of £500k at the moment. I did say £1m would be too steep but something approaching that, yet people are now telling me I think he should be valued at £1m.

I personally think we shouldn't let him go before the summer for less than about £800k. Yes it's making people pay through the nose. But I don't see the problem with that.

If we stay up then I wouldn't be too upset to see him go in the summer for £300k. But then his value to us will have diminished.

Not that any of this matters. I was just posing an alternate interpretation of Wycombe's failed buying attempt and our not continuing his loan with them.
I don't think that it means we're trying to sell him. And the fact he hasn't gone yet is currently supporting that.

How are you calculating his value to us then?

He's a player who is behind Cisse, Matejovsky, Karacan, Howard, Tabb, Gunnarsson, and possibly Sigurdsson, for a starting place in the middle of the park.

I should think he represents a small piece of extra cloth.

With the amount of money that is spent on nurturing these guys RFC should at least give them a bloody chance

Pre-season is not enough of a chance, JM.

Even more so considering he has actually proven himself in the lower leagues - unlike Pearce, Church, RK etc who were all very ordinary in the lower divisions. They are playing in the first team

What has Davies done wrong?

Considering he banged in a couple of thirty-yarders, curled in a few free-kicks (including one against Petr Cech) and set-up Robson-Kanu with a 60-yard through-ball during pre-season, I'd even say he grabbed that chance.

Because if we go down he would be an excellent player for us, and he is actually a better long term prospect (and in some cases currently better than already) Cisse, Matejovsky, Howard, Tabb & Gunnarsson. He gives us something none of those players do; genuine pace. He gives us something only one of those players do; a strong goal threat from midfield.

If we're going to sell a midfielder, it'll be Matejovsky, Tabb, or if anyone'll take him; Cisse (not that he's really a midfielder).

Sigurdsson: 19 starts
Karacan: 31 starts
Pearce: 39 starts
Church: 18 starts
Henry: 10 starts
Davies: 4 starts
Kelly: 9 starts
Robson-Kanu: 4 starts
Hamer: 2 starts

That's 136 starts from the Acadamy in the last two or three seasons. Yeah, none of them get a chance do they.

I was talking about Davies you plank

But those stats reinforce my argument - cheers

Davies excelled whilst out on loan for 2 full years, but has the same amount of starts as someone who barely made the bench at Southend
