Mr Angry A superb home debut by Griffin; had Eagles in his pocket for the whole of the 1st half to such an extent that Eagles was switched to the other flank at the start of the 2nd half to try his luck against Betrand - and didn't do much against him either!

Griffin gave us a solidity and nous that has been lacking at rb all season, and it seemed to me that the back 5 as a unit were much more solid as a result.

Eagles started against Bertrand and was switched during the first half to Griffin, but point taken, did really well against a winger who is probably just a little bit better than any other winger he'll come up against in the Championship.

Griffin looked really good on Saturday, I'm happy we got him on loan. Shame he's not looking to stay beyond this season.

As an aside, I was looking through our player roster in the programme and I wondered to myself what has become of Julian Kelly?

He was recently still injured, I believe.

if anyone was watching him closely at the ground, did he appear to be taking quite a bit of control in the organisation of things, like Murty used to do?

Not sure to what extent he was running things but he was certainly talking to Mills a lot throughout - there was one time when he appeared to admonish Mills for lumping it upfield when a better option was probably to play it right to Griffin or Jobi.

Ark Royal
brendywendy Ivar has been fine since mills. The addition of a proper right back has helped both the cbs

Agreed. Ingi has improved no end since Mills has replaced the retard Pearce.

dont think thats fair

if mills had been put in with pearce instead of ivar wed have seen much the same IMO
its the partnership of one slow one quick thats steadied us, not the dropping of individuals

I agree with those who said that Griffin looked good. I thought he'd be another Murty - which is plenty good enough for us - but he seems better all round. I also think we have good balance across the whole back four now, although Mills's distribution leaves a bit to be desired. He's coming on well now, though.

Yep.

Ivar has experience and poise on his side. Pearce has strength and more aerial dominance. Either would work with Mills IMO. I think both are equally good organisers, if not possibly PEarce edging it there.

Saturday was the strongest our back four has looked all season. sadly, it still wasn't good enough as we saw Fed make 3 outstanding saves. But why didn't ITV show Ivar's brilliant last minute tackle on Eagles? That alone was worth the £15 ticket money.

That's why it's a back 5.....

No defence will ever shut out an attack completely, if they did we could stop wasting a player in goal and play an extra striker !

When we kept 11 clean sheets (78/79), the record was kept intact by a fantastic Steve Death save at Port Vale. If your thinking is right then that defence was rubbish as well.

And our top notch record breaking League winning defence was helped out sometimes by one M Hahnemann. And Bobby Moore let Gordon Banks do a bit sometimes....

Agreed. As Eagles broke free I thought 'Oh no, replay here we come.' Clearly someone from upstairs had forgotten to brief our captain on the replay policy implemented a little while back in order to maximise ticket revenue!

I don't think I've ever seen a game where a keeper has had nothing to do at all. Anyone else?

Mr Optimist Yes he did.

I think he would be a good signing and a solid player at this level with a lot of experience to see us safely through this car crash of a season.

I know self praise is no praise but......! Never had any doubts personally but I think he still slotted in better than I thought he would do.
