Police/steward presence?

by willz_royal » 30 Jan 2010 17:22

30 barnsley thugs with scarves over their faces spoiling for a fight next to their coaches, and no stewards/ policemen in sight.

Very dangerous situation, with no protection; where was the line of stewards? Policecars were better late than never I suppose

More importantly stewards actually spotted walking in front of the coaches as they made their exit (and pausing to let a police car through to attend your "incident"

They were all stood in a line about 30m away from the safety gate on the Reading side. Surely the point of the safety gate is to keep the two sets of fans apart, so why do you need a separate line of stewards? Surely they would have been more use on the Barnslet side of the gate?

Easier to keep the home fans under control for the stewards. If the 30 fans were about to get on the coaches I would not be at all surprised if they were all on cctv, and that it was passed to BFC to try to take action and identify.

LOL - it was handbags. As we were walking past West Stand, a steward was all panicky and saying, "shut the doors, shut the doors, don't let anyone in" - and mumbled something about Barnsley supporters. As we walked to where the coaches were, there were a line of stewards and some fat bald Barnsley fan in a red top suddenly shouted to an RFC fan walking past "come on then" - so he walked towards him and the Barnsley fan moved back!!

We hardly ever have a police presence - unless we're playing against well-known troublemakers like Cardiff or Swansea.

Cutting the cloth, you see.

The arrival of the Police was somewhat delayed by the fact that no one had apparently told them that the club have made Northern Way one way on exit as a result of which, with blue lights flashing, they forced their way up the hill against two lines of outgoing traffic.

So you'd prefer the club to spend unnecessary money on policing where the pre-match risk assessment says it's not needed? :?:

Umm no. And I didn't say I did, I was merely responding and explaining to whoever it was who asked where was the police presence. Sorry to have upset you, Mr RFC.

Anyone reading that will see you suggest that there is not a police presence due to the club cutting the cloth, it is fairly well known that due to the clubs actions and stewarding that the authorities have decided that there is rarely a need for police at The Madstad.

What actions and stewarding?

And however you like to say it, it still comes down to the fact that by having no police presence at a certain game, we are cutting costs!

It has been posted on here many a time from folk ITK that we have quality stewarding and therefore the police are not required to attend most games, we have few arrests and few problems at games.

Still lets moan about cutting costs , where we can actually save money, much better to spend loads on police that will not be needed, and are assessed to have not been needed.

As you said it was Handbags, hardly means that they shoudl have spent good money on a few police in case, especially if it was decided by the club, authorities and the police that there was an unlikely need for them to be there.
