First Reading game was a 2-1 home defeat to Man City in the League Cup in the 93/4 season - if I remember correctly both Quinn J and Quinn N were on the score sheet.

First match I attended was Oxford 2 Man Utd 0 in November 1986 - Alex Ferguson's first game in charge.

First EP game 23rd September 1995 2-2 home draw with Port Vale, I was 6, really don't remember much about the game, just that my dad kept buying me Panda Pops. And I've been hooked ever since!

Focher
BR2 Reading v Norwich 1954 (?)
Reading scored 4 and I was hooked.
There were no subs of course,Blackman scored (But he wasn't a black man)and I stood at the Town End at a time when there was no segregation.
Didn't have enough money for a Bovril and there were railway sleepers (IIRC)as part of the terracing.
If there weren't any railway sleepers there definitely were some at the Tilehurst End.
Old men probably wore a hat and there would have been no women there-a few in the stands perhaps but not amongst the riff-raff.
There was no singing and the Whitley(?) Brass Band played at half-time.

Tony Le Mesmer I went to A Youth Cup game at EP circa 1980, think it was against Boro, might have been FA Youth CUp Semi, there was a decent crowd.

I remember asking someone "Is it Rush Keeper?'

An ex work colleague played for Reading in that game - Mark England. Centre back. Good player.

I played with Mark in the 80's !!!

Do not remember much about the game itself. Do remember my parents and uncles queuing up behind the South Bank for tickets to the 3rd round tie against Sheffield Wednesday.

You could say that about EVERY game you have been to since!

We have NOT played Sheffield Wednesday in the 3rd round every year since 1966...

Dumb pcunt. Hope you get Huntington's chorea.

No idea who we played and frankly I am amazed that people remember this. I was about 8 or 10 and my cousin took me. I walked from my Gran's house 1/2 mile away down the road that runs parallel to Oxford Road. Ollie Kearns and Steve Death played. My memories though are of the South Bank and surges of the crowd. Happy days!

Hooked............

Royal Lady Every year this comes up and every year I can't remember what the game was - though I think someone once narrowed it down for me.

October 1981. At home. Gary Heale was playing.

how old were you then :?:
You should never ask a lady her age. But as I'm not a lady.....21.

If Gary Heale hadn't been playing do you think you'd be supporting the Royals now?

Yes. Of course!! (Because I also fancied Jerry Williams....)

You have to admire Roachy, scoring in the 1st team at such a young age.

First game: August 1976 - Villa Park - Villa - Leeds 2, 10 years old - I couldn't believe how big the ground was when we actually got inside, having only seen football on the telly before: it was of the most overwhealming and unforgettable expereince of my life. Eddie Gray, Paul Reaney, Peter Lorimer, Alan Clark, Billy Bremner (in my memeory if not in the record books).

First Reading game - March 2000 (we moved to Reading December 31st 1999) Reading 2 - Millwall 0. I remember Fozzy scoring (I think on the break), being mildly impressed with Robinson, surprised at how quiet it was approaching the ground but pretty noisy when the second one went in.

It was something like love at first sight. Went to every other home game that season, season ticket the next year and ever since.

With a bit of luck, it will be Fall 2011. Been savings my pennies and should be able to come over for a week or 10 days - hopefully catch a couple of games...

It was the Sheffield Wednesday game for me (well RFC anyway). John Fantham scored the winner for Wednesday in the last few minutes 2-3. Wednesday were a top side in those days and made it to the Cup Final.
The crowd was over 25000. Was this the last attendance of this size since we finished up at Elm Park?
