Most Iconic Reading FC picture

I'd vote for the Friday goal v Tranmere, but only because that is my favourite season/period of following RFC. And I was behind that goal.

Objectively, beating promotion rivals in division 4, albeit with a great goal <<<<<<<<<<<the significance of Doyle's goal at Leicester, so it'd probably should be that.

Maybe you should re-read the original post (wait a minute - it was your own post) that states the SIGNIFICANCE of Doyle's goal. I re-state - it had NO significance.

I have not made any comment on whether any particular goal was iconic, mainly because the thread relates to PICTURES that were iconic.

to be clear, that goal (or rather Doyle's celebration thereof, let's be accurate here) is, in my opinion (I accept it is not a fact) the iconic moment of a day when we got promoted to the Premiership for the first time, which itself was an iconic promotion.

Can I get the story behind that photo?

His goal against Tranmere Rovers in March 1976 has been described as one of the greatest ever goals - sadly this was a time when most lower division matches were never recorded for television. Friday was waiting just outside the left hand corner of the box when the ball came across to him. He subsequently leaped high into the air, caught the ball on his chest, with his back to goal, spun around 180 degrees, and proceeded to fire the ball into the net, stunning the Tranmere defenders, to the great roar of the crowd. The referee that evening, the internationally-experienced Clive Thomas, held his hands in his face in disbelief and afterwards described it as one of the best goals he had ever witnessed. In response, Friday in typical fashion quipped that he should come more often as he does that sort of thing every week!

why o why do we not have a statue of Robin Friday most clubs are proud of their past, successful or not. id gladly chip in towards this if star got behind it

Ah you can get a small glimpse of 'Death Alley' in that photo. I used to love walking down there when we played Bury and Stockport at home. Unfortunately when we played Swindon, Oxford, Stoke and the like i was in too much of a hurry so went down the Tilehurst Rd instead

The picture of Friday on the cover of his biography comes a close second. It's just a great portrait of the man voted our best ever player and it's also a classic picture of Elm Park with The Spread Eagle in the background.

That's a coincidence - Friday spent a lot of his time in the Spread with John Murray - at times until 15 minutes before kick-off

we havent got money to buy real life players to help the team, what chance of getting metal or stone ones? ex players, ex managers and ex chairman are all history in RFC eyes, a club that always looks forward apparantly
