CMRoyal I'm not convinced by Karacan, not convinced at all. And Cisse seems out of favour so I see no reason why we shouldn't put Zurab in midfield.

Disagree. We've seen that karacan can be an immense midfielder and last season was fantastic, only to be unfairly dropped. This season he carried on from he left off and did well, only to be unfairly dropped again. It wouldn't surprise me if that knocked his confidence somewhat, plus he's still only 20! It's going to be a couple of years before we see some consistency in his performances. Even Rooney has had trouble being consistent up until now and he's 24!

I think it makes a pleasnt change to be in a situation where we have genuine competition for places. Zurab was excellent last night and his experience was to be seen by all. Only one scary moment in the second half when he let the ball bounce but otherwise, a very sound performance. I think it would be harsh on Ivar if he were to be dropped as he looks a totally different player under BMcD compared to the waster we had earlier in the season.

The Boris / Jem partnership is doing ok. Why change it?

And the time he played through their right winger from a woeful pass! We were just lucky they messed it up.

But agree re Karacan and Boris, they do a job. Karacan does have a tendancy to play some hard passes which never come off, but when he keeps it simple hes Ok. The main problem was Howard last night, but hopefully Sig will come back in when hes fit.

Tails Mills and Killi would be my ideal pairing - if we work on the proviso that we are keeping Mills and Ingi doesn't have many seasons left in him. The amount of skills, knowledge and professionalism Killi has is refreshing, from the way he takes the time to chest a ball down and spread it wide to the little nudges that give him an extra yard of space against forwards - would love to see him rub off on Mills and Pearce (who are ultimately our future pairing, no?)

This.

Pearce only the future if we want to knock about the bottom half of the Championship or be in League One. IMO.

papereyes Cisse is incredibly mediocre
I would imagine Karacan is shattered

Agreed and maybe, he certainly seems to have been poor recently. I'd like to see how he does with Howard next to him and Sig on the wing.

I like this Shitshitvilli or whatever his name is in fact I like any central defender who can pass the ball. The key to all this is Ingimarsson who I think has shown a distinct improvement these last three games. Both Mills and Shitshitvilli favour the right side whereas historically Ingimarssons best displays have been when he has been the leftsider. For some reason Pearce favours the left and this may have contributed to Ingimarsson`s previous loss of form.
I have always thought a right footed, left sided central defender has the most difficult role in the game. Some players are specialists in the position, John Terry being the most notable. A less exalted example would be Keith McPherson, in fact he excelled there in a back three. Other players hated playing there such as Adie Williams. Any defensive coaches out there who could explain how this works?

If you like him so much, why do you insult him by putting "shit" twice in his name?

It's Khizanishvili!

I think it shows how far we have fallen that two run-of-the-mill Premiership Reserve defenders can come in and have such an impact.
How stupid was Rodgers in thinking that Cummings and Pearce were good enough to be regular starters?
These two have shown a calmness that has been missing with Cummings,Church,Jem,Kebe and regrettably to some extent Ivar this season and they just get on and control the ball and pass to a team-mate rather than treating the ball like a hot potato.

The Georgian last night, apart from the one occasion when he let the ball bounce in the second half and gave their man a chance, was very steady indeed and Griffin has tended to pick the right options and has been an improvement on all the others that have played right-back.
Ivar on the other hand looks more panicky as time goes by and not only does he dither but also tries to play killer balls rather than pass the ball on to those that can pass.
It really does look like a season too far with him and I disagree with the earlier poster (although like him I much prefer a left/right combo for central defenders)who suggested that Ivar looks comfortable playing left of centre-IMHO he now looks uncomfortable wherever he is playing and I feel that the Georgian/Mills pairing is the preferred option for the rest of the league season.

From my understanding Rodgers tried to sign griffin before the first transfer window but he was told by griffin that he wanted to stay at stoke and fight for his place. Also the second transfer window is always a lot easier to sign a fringe player. Think about it. A player in the prem that has been working hard to earn a place in the side and hasn't been given a sniff for months. They would jump at the opportunity to play first team football and either put themselves in the shop window or let there employer know they can still do a job. But I do agree that a player like khizinashvili should have been signed in the first window considering the shortage of centre backs and the lack of fitness of Mills.
