PEARCEY
Jack Celliers I thought it was fine, but then I always liked the Championship - Reading being on telly at all is still a novelty.

We were second game on - despite only being championship teams - and the programme was only an hour long, so there was not enough time to set the scene for every game. At least we were spared the Motty analyis that the early goal would have enjoyed on BBC and Andy Gray claiming that the red card was harsh, which he does every week on sky.

The only shocking thing was that they missed the red card for Long, but ITV have been doing that for 20 years.

The red card for Long was very clearly shown.

All I saw was his face - the red card wasn't visible at all. Perhaps it is different in widescreen.

Having just seen the highlights courtesy of Sky+ I have to admit ITV's "highlights" are terrible. Spent more time in the post match discussion than they did showing it

It was end to end, knicker gripping stuff, highs and lows, they're on top, were on top, distraught with Longs sending off, elated with their player evening it all up. It was a credit to two Championship teams. Most of the fickle Reading fans that usually leave before the end stayed to the final whistle.

Despite being sort of disappointed with a draw, yesterday was what live football is all about and why I luv the game.

Shame ITV could not be bothered.

As always it's little old Reading who do not garner any real interest. Even when we were in the Prem we were ignored. Airtime is probably prioritized to the more higher profile games despite the possibility these are dire.

The match itself was a reason why the FAC is such a glorious competition.

Quite aside from their coverage of Berkshire's number one footballing outfit, ITV have been a disgrace for some time. I refer of course to their penchant for keeping inferior actors of the calibre of Susana Lancashire, John Nettles and other predictable has beens employed in low grade (note, not Lew Grade) three part dramas.
So why does it come as any surprise that unless Chelsea or Man City are involved they are prone to making stupid mistakes or not giving suffcient airtime to match incidents?

ITV are - of course - dire. I particularly  at them not showing the foul which led to the freekick for the last minute winner for Birmingham yesterday; it would only have been one of the most pivotal moments of the game lads, no worries.

BBC are just as naff when they put their mind to it. I switched over to catch the end of Manish cliche' his way through the end of the Football League show and link to posh Lizzie with the texts, who rather grumpily reminded our Manish that she was in fact Jacqui Oatley, proceeding to read several droll messages out with minimal enthusiasm.

Woodcote Royal
AthleticoSpizz I feel your angst JR

but it was only a couple of decades ago that the likes or Reading didn't even exist on TV

any coverage is better than no coverage, and ITV FA Cup games (unlike those Sky shysters) are "free to air" to all.

So because it's free the fact it's utter sh*te doesn't matter :|

ITV are a truly loathsome broadcaster these days only interested in turning out garbage for the brain dead/economically inactive.

They buy the rights to a major sporting competition and spend the bare mininum they can get away with broadcasting it............................SKY are worth 10 ITV's.
guess you have summed me up there Woody

think you might have missed the point tho'

Turn it in son, Midsommer Murders is the ONLY thing on ITV worth watching!

IMHO and totally off topic of course!

ITV Digital were actually a completly different company to ITV, they just 'borrowed' the name of the brand. I can't comment on the ITV coverage of yesterdays game though as I haven't seen it, just wanted to point that out!!! oh btw, sorry for that!! And as for the picture quality, I guess you are referring to DTT (Freeview), then I agree, the compression is too much but that is what happens to a company that doesn't have the tax payer paying for it..... It'll be re-engineered soon.

A different company in the same way that Abbey is a different company to Santander.

That's always been my beef. I've come to the conclusion that 30 minutes of a 1 hour game full of banal comments from no-marks whose opinions mean jack shit is cheaper to make than editing the highlights properly and getting Brian Moore's ghost to introduce.

Franchise FC

You're quite correct on the great Lancashire debate. Don't have a scooby - as my friends from Glesga often say - where Susana came from.
Another point regarding their coverage; we are talking about the same outfit that once employed the double act from hell Saint & Greavsie alongside horse racing stalwart and erstwhile carrot cruncher Mick Channon? I rest my case.

I also find that watching football on ITV just doesn't feel "right" - dont know what it is but it doesn't draw me in to watch it......BBC have highlights nailed down with Match of the Day and Sky have it nailed with live matches but ITV just cant seem to do it. Give the BBC the FA Cup back, at least we'll get decent highlights

Having been to the game I'm not too fussed about the TV highlights and how others see our performance or what the 'experts' in the studio say about it. It does go to show how off the mark these programs can be at times though.

I totally agree that ITV just don't get close to the BBC or Sky for quality coverage though.

The whole concept of live televised football is a disgrace. All supporters who attend matches are compromised in so many ways.
Why people embrace televised football then complain about switched kick off times is beyond me.
Scrap it all, pay the players and agents less, who cares?

Fine for those of you that are local, or have no other committments, but for those of us that can't get to games it's our only lifeline to see any action.

Not to mention those that are unable to get tickets for sold-out away games (obviously, this is more relevant to fans of other teams than ours just now...)
