Comfortably Numb David Gold, now on my hit list of football pcunts, has offered Portsmouth £10m as a loan if the club want it and the Premier League sanction it.

I can't see the league allowing it tbh. They'll get sued by whoever goes down in West Ham's place.

I can't see it happening without Gold wanting something in return (with no guarantees of £10m + interest coming back form a club on the brink) - this would get close to the ownership rules surely?

I still cannot see why any businessman in his right mind would buy Portsmouth.

I doubt the Russian and Hong Kong owners will forgo the whole £30M and £17M respectively so anyone buying the club will have to pay them off at least in part. They will then have to pay a reputed 11M to the IR, 1.7M to Sol Campbell and money to who knows how many others - probably 50M or so at least - even if they pay a £1 for the club.

So next season they have a debt of 50M - a huge wage bill by Championship standards and only a parachute payment.

Basically you are gambling that eitehr they DON'T get relegated or if they do that they go straight back up.

That sounds like a massive and stupid gamble and if anyone had that sort of money to spend they would be better to buy an "established" Championship club.

My guess is that some way of keeping them going till the end if the season will be found and then they will fold.

ive heard that somewhere before!

Pompey to start next year on -20, West Ham to go down and Hull go down after someone else scores with the last kick of the season, just has Phil Brown has been passed a microphone. Then all 3 might go pop.

That would be beautiful. It is just a shame that there can't be room for Wolves to be relegated in the same dream scenario!!

Portsmouth's defenece is based on "looking at", "interested", "could happen", etc...

That should not really stand up in a court, when payment is being demanded

Expect no mercy from HMRC

Christ, football - the only business in the world which you can run into the ground and still expect to survive. For the GOOD of football, Portsmouth need to FOAD

Fifa could support Portsmouth request to sell players

Fifa has indicated it will look favourably on Portsmouth's request to sell players outside of the transfer window, BBC Sport understands.

Pompey have debts of about £60m and are due in court on 1 March to contest a winding-up order issued by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

The Premier League will ask the other 19 clubs before making their decision.

It is likely any players sold would only be allowed to play in the Premier league, not any other competitions.

Fifa confirmed on Thursday that it received correspondence from the Football Association relating to Portsmouth's financial situation.

Pompey face the threat of administration or liquidation and BBC sports news correspondent Gordon Farquhar believes world football's governing body will support their plea.

"The argument put to Fifa would say it's the integrity of the competition at stake here - if Portsmouth go under all their points would be cancelled and the league table would be falsely affected," said Ferquhar.

"For the integrity of the sporting competition, it's better if the club can be kept afloat, at least to play out their fixtures until the end of the season."

However, for Portsmouth's request to be granted it would have to be agreed by the Premier League.

"It's the Premier League's competition that stands to be affect," explained Farquhar. "The Premier League board will have to think very long and hard because it raises a number of difficulties.

"Should the players only be allowed to play in the Premier League and not other competitions for fear of generating complaints?

"Would other clubs complain if they played against players who had been transferred outside of the transfer windows?

"My instinct is that the Premier League board, at this point in time, are probably going to say no."

Time for the HMRC to be strong or else they become a laughing stock.

Sullivan screwed up because he bought West Ham without proper due diligence and a risk analysis. After all Pompey were in deep doo-doo well before he bought WHU so he should have considered the fact that they could go under and the effects it would have on WHU. It's hardly like any of it wasn't public domain. Epic^2 fail on his part

royalexile Actually thinking about it more i was still sort of correct.

Portsmouth cease to exist. 2 clubs relegated from the PL. 3 up from the Championship. This leave the championship with 23 teams.

If this were to happen, I would imagine the 2 down, 3 up would be extended as far as Tier 6 (Conference N / S) or even Tier 7 to cover the "shortfall" as at those levels, you quite often hear of a "relegated" club getting a reprieve as the team that would be "promoted" doesn't have a ground that meets the required standard of the league they would be "promtoed" into.

Surely if UEFA allow Pompey to sell players outside of the transfer window then they are also allowing every other club to buy players outside of the transfer window?

The PL should cut their losses and just ditch PFC now. If i was a PL club i would complain to the PL about all this help Pompey getting is not fair on the other clubs. Also it's their fault not anyone elses why they are in that position!

BURN IN HELL PFC!

The most annoying part is that if Pompey get saved somehow, their fans will immediately revert back to the smug mongtards that they have always been

Also how does the competition retain any 'integrity' if a weakened team on artificial life support fulfils it's fixtures in some kind of token effort ?

Any team going into the last game of the season needing 3 points at Pompey to survive will be laughing.

Although thinking about it that's business as usual isn;t it
