Back from the match WBA F.A cup

by Challisman » 25 Feb 2010 00:14

Back in my pub in Worcester, would have been quicker if it wasn't for the bloody roadworks on the M5, it's going to be a long trip back for some fans.

What can I say, a perfect F.A cup night which had everything. It's all just a blur to me now but worth it for the Gylfi goal alone, it seemed to fly in but in slow motion if you know what I mean (I dont)
Barely time to settle before Brom stuck one past us, they started very brightly and to be fair looked threatening for most of the night, but strangely not in extra time, we seemed to take complete control until the lino & ref tried to f*ck us up at the end (was it really a corner?).

Too tired to do the player ratings at the mo, but I must say a a complete disgrace the stewards were, things could have got very bad because of them at the end!!!!

Well done guys URRRZZZZZ

Brilliant night. Have no voice left at all.

Game did go a bit flat for a while after it went 1-1 but boy did it pick-up!

Sensible stewarding also - 10/10 to them.

There's something definitely wrong with the stewarding at WBA. The last time I was there, a couple of lads in front of us got thrown out just for looking at them. The rozzers just laughed and shrugged it off.

One of the greatest nights in 40 years as a Reading fan.

Chances galore, injury time equaliser, superb winner, pandemonium on and off the pitch at the final whistle. Some genuine cup magic for Reading this year, arguably for the first time in a lifestime.

Just a magnificent result and magnificent effort, if not always matched by a magnificent performance.

Top, top stuff

Never seen players manhandled by stewards in such a way in my life. They seemed hell bent on stopping the players even coming across at the end.

Truly disgusting.

Took the shine off a really good cup tie.

i thought it topped of a classic cup tie, seeing those Brummie twats so pissed off. Just plain bad losers all those stewards must be West Brom fans, and they were just pissed off.

to sum up the night in true John Wilson fashion, "what an absolute clonker"

So glad I went it's two in the morning and I won't sleep to night am still buzzin it's nights like tonight that make being a Reading fan worthwhile. Just fantastic performance apart from Feds howler we were brilliant. What went on at the end was just pathetic their stewards seamed hell bent on stopping the players from celebrating with us at the end. If that had been Millwall or Cardiff they would have had a riot on there hands all caused by there own heavy handed aproach, what did they think was going to happen the players would fight with there own fans after a famous cup win? A memerable night and history 83 years of hurt just one game fron Wembley.

That was plucked out of the hat wasn't it. Who could really see us equalising so late into injury time. Then again it seems to be familiar. WBA came out of the traps straight away and it could have been a hell of a torturous away game if we didn't finally allow them to ease up to our pace.
We were getting hammered ineffectively with the pretty passing but even WBA were making very silly mistakes which raised the droll cheer. Thank christ the team settled and scored that equaliser so close to their initial strike otherwise it could very well have been another story. The first half then settled down into nothing much happening but i was happy / relieved to be going into the second half at 1-1.
We almost hit them straight back again at 2-1 when Siggy hit the crossbar which was one of those heartstopping moments when the Reading support were willing the ball to go in.
Both home and away support were exiting the ground when it looked like we would rue that missed opportunity, WBA support chanting Que Sera Sera, us glowering and taunting and then Howard stepped up to the plate. Sheer pandemonium ensured where a number of us ended up with cuts and bruises due to leeping around like loons, i think even Floyd was enjoying himself last night.
Funny seeing the Reading support suddenly going back to their seats.
The match had it all, showing both our weaknesses and the teams tenactity to not give up.
To say that was on a par with the Liverpool result is an understatement, but it was all the more sweeter.
No doubt there will be a review of the pandemonium ofter the final whistle and hopefully McAnuff's red card will be recinded.

As a former steward at EP, I am dismayed at the thuggish behaviour of the stewards at The Hawthorns. Reading players had every right to go to their own fans to celebrate. Let us hope that action is taken, particularly for the unmerited manhandling. Sadly, I think that the red card against Jobi will not be rescinded.

You could accuse Brendan Rodgers of many things, but one thing you could not accuse him of is being a lucky manager. McD has had injury time equalisers against Bristol City and injury time winners against Plymouth in the league, whilst in the cup we have had a lifeline in injury time against both Liverpool and WBA on their own grounds now and a late winner against Burnley. Perhaps he earns his own luck by making conistently logical tactical decisions; HRK on as a fresh extra time sub stretched WBA almost to breaking point and played his role in us winning this astonishing tie.

Not the greatest performance ever and some (Griffin, Ingi and particularly butter-fingers Federici) were below par but again they played with plenty of b*ll*cks and kept going until the end even after a couple of very decent chances had gone begging. Memorable night and this club deserves a overdue cup run and we now have a big day to look forward to on Sunday week, win lose or draw. Must mention again over-zealous stewarding from trumped-up thugs in orange jackets who quite disgracefully attempted with some vigour and force to prevent our players celebrating with some of the best behaved supporters in the country.

I definitely agree that McDermott creates his own luck to some extent with good use of subs, something Rodgers definitely lacked. I think McDermott's bought a lot of belief to the team aswell, when we were behind with Rodgers we never really looked like getting back into it (we usually just fell apart if truth be told), but now I think the players always believe we can get back into it.

Not dissimilar to the sides around the time Trevor Morley was in the team, for example. We seemed to give it similar b*ll*cks in those days and carve out games in which often we would have been considered less than deserving to have done so. It's not too strange to see that fans generally respond to honest-broker sides like that, where some basic ability is also backed up with some hard graft. I was proud of those sides then, as they would often give other teams a really tough game and they certainly knew they'd been in one. Brendan's teams - very quickly it must be said - displayed a dismaying level of lack of backbone. McDermott's selections are not world beaters by any means, but they have some talent, but most of all they are showing a comforting repeat ability now to work hard right up to the death. In that, you do make your 'own luck' I believe. Our lot seem to want to work now, as long as the final whistle hasn't gone. Okay, we're still seeing days like Blackpool, I appreciate. But if those performances reduce in frequency and the 'hard work' sessions increase? Often we will get some kind of reward.

As a fan, I love that.
