Back From The Game - Sheff Wed (H)

by tomrfcurz » 27 Feb 2010 18:13

Second half was cracking and the first half was a bit poor with both goals a tad lucky. Thought the Big Mac's subs were top draw and spot on. Kebe obviously on fire again with his two goals and a brill finish for his second, i honestly thought he was going to waste it but i guess i just need faith in the Malian Ronaldo! Nice to see the reception he deservedly got when substituted too. The Ref today was pretty bad for both sides, not just against us but the amount of fouls that i felt deserved yellows and he kept the cards in his pocket was truly unbelievable IMO. Player ratings:

Federici - 7, Give him a fairly high score as he kept a clean sheet but nothing to do, distribution great
Griffin - 8, Great work from him again and caused a bit of trouble in the Sheff Wed defense too, not much to do defensively
Bertrand - 8, Same as above really
Khizanishvili - 8, Another defensive eight here, did well coming forward to and won every header
Ingimarsson - 7, Not noticeable as had nout to do but wasn't bad but didn't set the game alight really
Tabb - 7, Hard working but felt some of his tackles could have been better but going forward was fairly good
Sigurdsson - 7, First half set pieces awful and went down hill after his 'injury' but was solid
Kebe - 8, My MOTM and great finish for his second goal, tad lucky for his first but was on fire down the wing in 2nd half
Howard, 7 - Did well today and was very physical as always but set pieces in the first half especially, awful
Rasiak, 7 - Took the goals well but did nothing else much
Church, 8 - Superb goal from him and fought for every ball throughout the game

'greed on the first half.....thought our midfield was looking vulnerable and we were just playing long ball. I'd say we actually got worse the longer the half went on

Lucky goal, followed by another, then a screamer just after half time. End of the game a contest.

Wednesday couldn't handle Church's pace and Kebe did bloody well again (even putting in a nice tackle and riding quite a few challenges)
Hats off to Tabb too....really throws himself into challenges and won a lot in midfield in the 2nd half

Been a long time since i felt this good leaving the Madjeski stadium,a five star performance against probably the worst team ive seen at the Madjeski in a decade. Every player pulled there weight today. I was a little concerned when i saw Brian and jay in the middle but they were both excellent today, no jobi no mills no long, means were beginning to see for the first time this season competition for places keep this up and we will be safe in no time.

every player deserved at least an 8 today kebe with a 10

urzzz

plus a massive shout to the fans really good atmosphere and great banter fat bloke in the away end = Legend

Well what a result. I am absolutely gobsmacked that we managed to overcome playing 120mins on Wednesday then tonk our relegation rivals 5-0 (a 10 GD shift).

MOTM has to be Kebe, not spectacular but effective, always a threat, two goals and an assist.

Good game from Tabby, otherwise solid team performance elsewhere. I heard the McD interview afterwards and he said this result was for the injustice Jobi received on Wednesday ( and they won't be appealing).

Spectacular 3rd goal from Churchy, he may not be a total airhead waste of space afterall

Only comment to make is we could and should have done better on our set pieces...i think we had 3 free kicks around the area and about 8 corners before we eventually scored.

Apart from that, great game, solid perfomance and looking forward to vilolla now!

tomrfcurz Second half was cracking and the first half was a bit poor with both goals a tad lucky. Player ratings coming soon :D

But, as they say, you make your own luck and, by the way we so completely took the game to them right from the outset, we made plenty of luck! 2-0 was no more than we deserved at half-time. How many corners did we win in the first half?

Oh and well done and fair play to shirtless fatty Owl who provided plenty of off the field entertainment and was warmly applauded (applause which he returned) by the Royals fans as he left the stadium. Did he kiss a female yellow jacket steward on the way out?

Thoroughly enjoyed that one, Fedders 9-0 prediction of someone getting thrashed is still delayed. :P

Loving fat man and his press/sit ups. Some friendly banter apart from carpet head two rows in front of me.

Church - what a sweetly taken goal plucked out of nowhere.

Kebe - he knows no bounds.

Lovely stuff. Not my words, the words of Shakin' Stevens.

In the context of two hard-fought hours on Wednesday night, this was tremendous stuff. We dominated the game, played some purposeful football and smashed a relegation rival out of sight. Excellent performance all round, I look forward to seeing Kebe smash that fifth goal home on the Football League Show later. McDermott once again tactically right by switching to a 4-4-2 as I had predicted/hoped for before the game; this allowed the excellent Church to share the load up front with Rasiak, who did the business himself today. 5 more wins needed please.

Wednesday were a beaten side by half time - first goal took an evil deflection, nothing lucky about the second. They looked like a side who wanted to get the ball on the ground and play some passing football. But the two goals took any conviction they might have had away from them.

After that it started to look like shooting fish in a barrel for Reading. Could have been more.

Church - great movement and superb goal. Kebe did exaclty what you'd want him to. Back four composed and effective.

Rasiak - I've never understood the luke-warm (at best) reaction to him on here. Probably my MOTM today - well taken goals, won every header, held the ball up superbly.

Bring on the Villa.

Fat bloke a legend?

Hardly...unless you get legendry status by abusing Siggy whilst on the floor injured.

The bloke was a ox*ord and got very boring very quickly. Only reason he started playing to the crowd was because he knew he was on a hiding to nothing. I can only assume that he was to thick to realise that we were actually mocking him.

I bet he won't be able to move after those sit ups tomorrow though.

Good banter though throughout and TRUE legendry status has to go to whoever started the 'Tits by your ankles' chant...proper genius!

That was as good a team performance as any I have seen this season. Everyone played their part and I honestly can not single out a MoM.

I thought Rasiak had his best game in a Reading shirt. Kebe looks like a totally different person. His work rate today was very impressive. The back 5 were solid. Church's goal was sublime. Shame that the place was silent for the last 10 minutes.

Brendan who?

Didnt think we were that outstanding to be honest but we took our chances excellently when they came along

With 5 minutes to go before half time we looked like a shaddow of the team that started very well and it looked like we could be made to pay for our lack of cutting edge in the first 40 minutes. The two goal burst killed Wednesday off though and then it was nothing more than a training exercise

Hell of a goal from Church though, and that really killed the game as a contest, and Kebe took his equally as well after having quite a long time to think about it

Disappointed in Henry when he came on, but it must have been difficult to make an impact on a game that was dead and burried, he should be doing more than that though if he wants to win a play in the side

Well as far as I am concerned that was a 5 star performance - the best for over a year at the Madstad. And as others have aid that came after we played 120 minutes midweek and our opponents have not had a game. Superb performances all round.

Fed - 8 - nothing to do really
Griffin 8- class
Ingi - 8 - never looked in trouble
Khiz - 9 - another classy performer
Bertrand - 9 - excellent today
Tabb/Howard both 9 - did not rate Howard to begin with but he was superb today as was Tabb - totally controlled midfield all game which gave us the platform needed
Sig - 9 - another totally classy player
Kebe - 9 - just shaded MOTM I think - superb - just needs to be loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Rasiak - 7 - not my cup of tea but held the ball up ok and had a couple of tap ins
Church - 8 - superb again - he will go on to be a top PL player - despite what some morons on here think

RK - 8 - like this lad - think he has a bright future
Henry - 6 - did not make much impact
Marek - as above

Ref - let it flow but some of their tackles were agricultural and cannot believe he did not book anyone.

Gooding and Dellor were enthusing about the performance during the 1st half and seemed to agree that it was probably the best half of football seen at the Mad Stad all season.

Vaguely interesting that a number of above comments are very much to the contrary.

This was a very solid, efficient performance, where we put away a very poor Wednesday side. The switch to 4-4-2 (as I eluded to in the team for.. thread) was tactically spot on, and the front 6 did everything we could have expected from them given the exertions in midweek.

Tabb was very good indeed, and we looked much better with 2 players in the middle of the park who can actually pass the ball (Howard had one of his best performances in an RFC shirt as well), and Sig was once again the best player on the pitch.

Church and Kebe are playing with confidence, and as a result are much more effective.

Great stuff.

i'd agree with dellor and goodding rather than those on here.

it was more or ess one way traffic for 45 minutes, we forced 8 corners, if we had been 0-0 at half time it would have been disappointing

our first may have been fortunate, but by that stage the owls were fortunate to be hanging on

That surprising me a little with Gooding as he doesnt get carried away quite like Dellor does (especially with any thing positive post Rodgers!)

The first 10 minutes we looked really good, but then we didnt really create much in the way of chances despite some reasonably constant pressure. The game got quite scrappy for 30 mins and despite our pressure, possession and territory advantage we didnt look like scoring

The two goals completely changed the game though

Was a good performance, not saying it wasnt, but I just didnt think it was any better than a lot of other games this season apart from the one vital factor, we were very clinical infront of goal
