Spammed by London Irish

I got the spam email and contacted info@london-irish.com to get my details removed. Got a nice reply from Felicity Greenland saying the details would be removed.

I don't like the fact that having specifically asked for my details not to be passed to any third parties, RFC have done exactly that. If anyone reported them they'd be in breach of the DPA and probably get fined. At least I avoided giving the club my phone number so didn't get any texts.

I doubt they'd get fined, someone's clearly made a c0ck up, it shouldn't happen but you'd be surprised how often this kind of thing does, and it has been known to make it to the media as well.

But they'd only get fined if they did it repeatedly and someone like Spacey made a complaint to them.

As said, i've been in the email marketing industry for over 10 years now so know it inside out.........in these emails they are spamming people with they include no means of unsubscribe which you HAVE to provide - even if its a written address. With this and the fact they've sent 5 emails to me already today they are breaking the law.

We once had a close shave when some bloke took us to court cos we emailed him after he had already requested we remove him, in the end we had to settle out of court.

Or rather they've spotted they've got a live punter and seen the chance to do a bit of marketing....

Surely you recognise it as a classic ploy - irrelevant whether you are right or wrong just make sure the person who has shown enough interest to contact you is given every opportunity to sample the product.

With 15000 empty seats most games it's a cheap solution for them !

Yeah, so am I. The email address I'd unsubscribed from was noreply@london-irish.com, so I'm beginning to wonder if I'd been fooled into clicking on a spambot email in the first place.

I've just received the googlemail email too and I'm at work. The only sports related email I've ever received on this email address before has been official RFC emails, and they just get deleted. It's the work of RFC cocking up.....

Spacey - that doesn't matter.........once one company has your details they sell it around for others to use. So my guessing is that London Irish have "bought" this data from somewhere dodgy and are now using it to spam users.

I've had it twice to my work accoutn today and the second time five other email addresses were visible in the list, including your work email address. I actually know three of the 5

No idea how they got my work address though - I don't register on anything with it.
