Dullest match you've ever seen Reading play in

by Wimb » 09 Mar 2010 13:56

Hard to pick out just one,

But I remember a 1-0 win in the FA Cup first round win at home to Welling that was just so so boring.

Any others that stick out in your minds?

Grimsby at home, Burns era. Pretty sure it rained the whole game.

We won due to a mishit backpass that went over the keeper with no pressure on the defender at all. It was the only attacking moment I remember in the game.

Watford 0 - 0 Reading - first season in premiership just before xmas - ball spent more time in the air than on the ground! Only highlight was some banter with Chris Kamara over who he'd peed off at sky to have to cover this match

I remember Coventry v Reading last year being the only match where the entertainment was slightly better than the game and that wasn't much better. Neither team wanted to score let alone win.

Plymouth at home in the 04-05 season was a definate bore fest, including the laughable debut/cameo for Keown. Also on the snore list is Pompey at home in the 97/98 season, a truly truly dire game and a 1-0 loss from what little i remember. Last game at elm park wasnt exactly a belter either!

About 5 years ago we drew 0-0 at home to Leicester. Sonko nearly skied a clearance over the top of the east stand - the only moment of class in 90 minutes!

For some reason I also have a vague recollection of a dreadful 0-0 at Elm Park v Chesterfield. Dunno why that one stands out as there were numerous dull games under the likes of Branfoot and Burns. I used to see the teamsheet before Burns era games and my heart would sink. You'd settle down to watch a game with absolutely zero expectation that you'd see your team score.

As a fresh faced uni student, I took along 3 mates to this game... One of them is now a regular.

And no beer on sale in the ground.

That was a hapless day

Would have been a +1 from me too if it wasn't for the fella a few rows back from me who took a piss in the corner only for it to leak down and give our fans in the lower-tier a nice golden shower.

1988/89 : a 0-0 draw against Chesterfield on a cold Saturday in November. Rancid

Also have recollections of a home draw against Swansea on a Easter Monday in the early 90's. I was shouting "dire" from about quarter past three onwards.

Some very good mentions here which also sprang to mind for me when I saw the thread title - ie. Walsall and QPR

Wigan away 2nd season in the prem was pretty shocking

Also agree with Walsall and QPR mentions. Another one I remember as being pretty poor was Rotherham at home in 2003, may have been more to do with the hangover I had that day, but I remember being close to falling asleep a couple of times.

No mention of Doncaster at home this season? That game was woeful.
