Ian Royal Think it's fairly safe to assume Bristol, Donny, Derby and Preston are going to be safe tbh.

I'm inclined to think so, yup

However, I'm also inclined to believe that the floor's gonna fall out from underneath someone over their final dozen or so games --we can see the end from here, but there's still plenty of somebody's season left to come flying utterly apart between here and there

Watford?

At a glance, Scunny (and I'm with Dirk here; would need to take a comparative in-depth look at squad strength, injuries et al, but my gut's telling me to go with the guys who came up via the play-offs if they haven't managed to scoot well clear of danger by now --which sorta goes to your point about how we're the ones from the rockpile of two seasons back who got mugg'd in the end; at this stage, go with old hands to claw their way up and over-- and their goal-difference these days tells a tale of its own)

The rest of their month goes Ipswich(A), Newcastle(A), Plymouth(H), Peterborough(H) and Sheff Utd(A), and they'd better come out of those five with at least 6 points and likely something closer to 9

Palace, with a potentially brutal four-match run beginning next Tuesday, are looming ever larger as candidates for a late slide and may well end up blaming that 10-point deduction for something more than just its cosmetic effect

I take well your exemplar of Brum and Wolves at the end of last season --nailing it down once and for all is no easy thing (although I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Toon come out atop this thing by ten clear points in the end and to make a real push to finish on a hundred points)

Oh, and
North Eaat royal if we win our 3 games in hand we could be 10th and 5 points off the play offs

I look upon the three games in hand as three free points, whether from a trio of draws or a win against two defeats; confident though I am, anything beyond that is free money AFAIC, and in any case, I don't see us picking up 9 points on dates when just about all of the rest of the division is sat at home looking on (but I'd be delighted to eat my words if we were to pick up, say, 6 or even more)

Well let's hope we can get something from our next three games, not just because they're home games but much more importantly they are v teams around us.

Even more so as the three games after them are not the most wonderful run to have (Middlesbrough (a), Leicester (a) and WBA (h)) and we could do with having some points flexibility.

I bought the commemorative promotion season DVDs, but even if we go down I wouldn't buy a Relegation Watch.

Probably may have been mentioned.

Cardiff are in court for the 3rd time today trying to avoid a winding up order - if they go into admin or liquidation - we will only be 12 points off the playoffs (Blackpool - 50pts) with 3 games in hand including tonight.

Lol wishful thinking there. I like that idea though :-)

Let's see how we get on tonight though...

I'm just stating what could happen, not what I think will.

Am still focusing on us leaving the bottom three behind first.

P'boro,Plymouth and Ipswich.

Would love to see Roy Keane's face and reaction if his team is relegated. Hate that outspoken bastard.

In terms of survival a 1-1 draw tonight would be OK
but the psychological effect of a good win or a bad defeat
could be huge.

A defeat, a bubble-burst scenario, not only puts the seed of doubt
into Reading but also gives other sides renewed hope. A defeat
could easily lead to dropped points in the next two home games also,
and, for example, a loss to QPR and suddenly they are 8 points clear of us

But a win by 2 goals tonight and we're above Watford and Ipswich with Watford
surely getting seriously worried. We'd be a point behind Derby with two games in hand
and beginning to whisper, "Maybe the play-offs isn't impossible..."

I hope we win 5-0 again, but 1-1 is my guess.

With 14 games left, I am predicting that we may win most of the games thought there would be hard games like Preston, Boro and WBA.

MARCH MATCHES:
Derby - win
Bristol - win
QPR - win
Boro - draw
Leicester - lose
WBA - lose

APRIL MATCHES:
Ipswich - win
Conventry - win
Cardiff - lose
Newcastle - lose
Peterborough - win
Scunthorpe - win
Watford - win

MAY MATCHES:
Preston - draw

Assuming that these predictions are correct, with 64 points at the end of the season, it may be impossible for the playoffs. Cardiff are now on 52 points, how are they gonna lose the next 14 games?

Team has to really make this work.

A well reasoned post there. Tonight is a big game and the result could well set the tone for the reasons pointed out.

I said that FA cup exit could well change us and I feel we won't have the right mental attitude tonight to get a result. Derby will be with confidence on their improved form. It's a game where we will be tested...!

I still fancy Scunny to survive on sheer guts alone. They know they aren't good enough. They know they've got a massive fight on their hands. So I don't think it will get to them psychologically the way it will to a team like Palace, QPR, Watford, Wednesday or us.

Agreed. Tonight has "pop!" written all over it. Burst bubble, 0-2 defeat and the gradual onset of panic.

So I'll be more than happy with a draw tonight and in our other game in hand.

They wouldn't have to - your results have put us on 64 points!

However, we would need 70 odd to make the playoffs based on last 5-6 season, so would need to win 9 or 10 out of 14 to make it, but if we do take max from next 3 home games we would need 6 or 7 wins from 11.

Frankly I just hope we beat Derby!

It's the old mantra - focus on the next game, win that and relegation becomes less likely and other things may start to become possible.

I think we're finish 12th but that's just me.

I think the imperative thing is to just keep the total points ticking over. We saw 2 years ago that staying on 22 points for so long shot us in the foot...

I agree
We don't need to go on any sort of crazy run of good form. But we really can't afford to go on an extended run of poor form. WDL to the end of the season would still see us on 57 points and definitely safe.

Have to look on it the same way as when Pardew came in after Burns, a indifferent caretaker spell followed by the gradual picking up of results that lifted us from trouble to midtable, then we mounted a challenge the following season.

I see us 14th but a bit of excitment wouldn't go amiss if we do somehow win 3/3 on this stretch.
