I know it may sound ridiculous but it could happen, anything is possible in this division.

However I wouldn't want us to go up this season as it's very likely we'd come straight back down.

It wont happen, of course, but with games in hand on a few up there, we could get a top half finish yet. Carry that form into next season and better times next season with some luck.

Mr Angry This is EXACTLY the sort of over-reaction that gets me going!!! Jeez - we have scraped past 3 God-awful teams and come out with wins, but to suggest we are play-off hopefuls as a result is just mad.

Just take each game as it comes. (insert other cliches here)

I was saying that it is UNLIKELY but the fact is that 12 wins could take us to the fringe of the play offs. Can we win 12 - again unlikely but POSSIBLE as we do have 7 or 8 winnable home games left and our away form is quite good.

From what I have seen this season we are as good as any teams outside the top 5 - who seem slightly better than the rest. Any team can go on a good run in this division and if confidence rises anything can happen. It may not be us but it is quite probable that a team will go on a good run this season from the bottom to near the top. Derby and Sheff Wed are also on good runs at present so it could be one of them.

So far so good

That was the odds for promotion - assume it would be less than that for a top 6 finish

Gary Johnson reckons in his post match interview that if we carry on playing like this we could make third!

Apparently, there's an article in the NoTW tomorrow about alcoholic managers and the things they say in post-match press comments.

19/5 as of tonight. 11/1 to win promotion. Only 7 teams on shorter odds than that. If we beat QPR midweek those odds will be even shorter!

If you look at the table it is interesting to note that if we had played and won our two games in hand against Newcastle and Scunny (not impossible) - we would today be sitting in 8th place - just 2 points off the play offs. The play offs are a very real possibility now as Cardiff are going backwards and we can catch everyone else from 7th down.

Nice idea, but we have only have one game in hand on some of the teams.

If the teams above us with games in and won all those games we would still be 8th - I took that into account before posting. Cardiff and Leicester also have a game in hand but it is against each other. A Leicester win would be good for us as Cardiff would then only be 2 points ahead on even games.

A few figures to contemplate. The average points total required to finish 6th is 74, that means we can only drop 6 more points till the end of the season. So that's 2 defeats or 3 draws and we must win all the others! It's very unlikely but I'm in the anything is possible camp and won't give up on it till it's a mathematical certainty. I hope the players feel the same way.

As for whether or not we want promotion this season, or next, or the season after, you can't choose like that! IF it happens you have you give it your best shot, I really can't understand anyone who says they don't want promotion, I'm sure the players and club do.
