shaka's shorts Dariusz, Williams, Upson, Inga and Sonko top 5 - all better than the likes of Hicks and Hetzke who were solid servants but Div 4 players. I'd go for Williams as he was top man for longest of the 5, but what a pairing Darious and Upson would have been

I would agree. Been watching since 95 and Upson has been the best. Have not seen one player have such an influence over the team so quickly. Gutted when he did not sign, even though I kind of thought he wouldn't anyway.

Williams and Sonko were great and Ingi still has something to offer I reckon (even if it is back up or mentoring).

Dariusz was obviously very talented, but played at a time when I was probably a bit too young to appreciate a great defender (Even though I am one!). He is mainly in there as nostalgia (on my part).

Dariusz. One of the classiest players in any position to wear the hoops. Nobody else comes close.

Beat me to it!

Who were the 2 centre backs playing during our record breaking defensive record?

Hands down. Wish we still had Bikey.

We got rid of him at the best time. He let the flattery go to his head and is a right lazy sod. Does he ever run for Burnley? He may as well play in slippers.

Harsh but true. A player that could have offered so much more....but never did.

im suprised nobody else thinks that Sonko 2005/2006, and the first half of 2006/2007 was one of our best. In that time some of his displays were consistantly the best ive seen since my first game in 84

Yes, but I'd also say that he had too many bad games for us too. He looked dodgy in 04/05, and lets not mention his post-injury form. Ivar produced consistently for nigh on 7 years. I'd agree that Upson was in a class of his own. If we're including loan players, yes. However, when compiling an all time greatest Reading 11, I personally wouldn't include loan players.

My top 5 in no particular order Ingi, Primus, McPherson, Hicks and Dariusz

Just wish we had kept hold of Primus for a bit longer

1) Dariusz Wdowczyk
2) Ivar Ingimarsson
3) Linvoy Primus

Honourable mentions to Sonko, Bikey & Williams, but the former two certainly didn't perform consistently well enough, over long enough to qualify. Sonko would have been 2nd but for his form post Prem injury. Too early for Mills to qualify...

Upson discounted as only ever here on loan.

I am perhaps being a little kind to Wdowczyk and a little harsh to Ivar. Primus would also be higher, but his best days were definitely elsewhere.
