Watford (A)

by tink » 05 Apr 2010 13:28

Anybody got any idea what our ticket allocation is likely to be for this game? The OS has the dates when tickets go on sale to member card holders but doesn't seem to say how many tickets we will actually have.

Also, what are the chances of us selling our entire allocation? I'm guessing quite likely?

Wouldn't bet on it selling out. We'll have nothing to play for except possibly relegating Watford by then.

I was just working on the basis that its a fairly short trip for most people and we will probably only get 2,000 odd tickets. If (and I accept it is a big if) that we still have something to play for, then i would have thought we would take a fair few supporters along.

I guess all will become clear as we edge a bit closer to the end of the season

Judging on previous visits and from what i've seen on the tele recently, we'll probably have just half the stand so about 2,000 tickets.

The away end at Watford has a capacity of roughly 2,250 and the divide between the home and away is fixed.

A visit to Watford is definitely worth it - there's many shops/bars in the town centre and these are within walking distance of the football stadium and those who don't normally travel to away games - Watford isn't too far from Reading.

If RFC will commit to sell the full quota, I reckon we will get the whole stand. Watford need as much income as they can get. Some really promising redevelopment around the ground (conference rooms, hospitality, business centre etc.) started but now put on hold due to lack of finances.

Heretic alert!

What with them being my local club and with one of my kids currently attached to them, I've developed a bit of a soft spot for Watford. So I'll come clean and say now that, whilst I hope that we (Reading) win, I would really hate it if we send them down. Watford is very much a community/family club and does some fantastic work both generally, as well as specifically in terms of developing young footballers both male and female. The financial hit of being relegated would, I fear, damage those activities.

I too have the same dilemma, not wanting to see Watford go down - they are my local Championship side as well. If Watford went down then it would be very damaging for them. However, Watford going down (if it happens) is NOT due to this one match against Reading, but due to the whole season (i.e. failing to get enough points to stay up). Ultimately, Reading winning could be the final straw against Watford but if they had enough points to begin with, this wouldn't be an issue.

It will be an interesting game to watch as Watford will be fighting to the death, especially if they (Watford) fail to pick up any points away to Leicester the week before. One thing helping Watford is the fact that Sheffield Wednesday have some very tough fixtures.

The away end at Watford is half the stand and the dividing line between the home and away supporters is fixed. In the event of a poor turnout, they simply have loads of empty seats in the away end. I would have thought that Reading would have access to all 2,250 seats unless they have to set a capacity beforehand due to numbers of stewards etc.

This differs from Nottingham Forest who can vary the size of their away stand and in the event of poor away ticket sales, open up sections to home supporters.

We usually struggle to sell out when it's a mid season match so have no chance of selling out for a meaningless end of season game.

I like the positive vibe. This is probably our closest away game geographically (?), last away game of the season, inflatables day, a match which could see the home team battling for their lives against a team who are, whether you choose to believe it or not, still in with an outside shot of the playoffs.

Until the maths proves otherwise, this could be a crucial relegation/play-off decider, so i'm hoping for a big crowd and a great atmosphere.

I'm in

i dont see why selling it out is a positive thing, it only means half the upper west posting up on the day, usually in the back three rows and moaning the whole game and generally ruining it for everyone.

Every single sold out away end i have been in in the last four seasons, the atmosphere has been shite.

I'd much rather we took 1500 so everyone can spread out and sit/stand where they like tbh

I think that Chelsea away on boxing day was quite a good atmosphere and I remember enjoying Man City away and thinking that was quite good atmosphere, in the same year as the Chelsea game.

Watford is shit. The ground is shit, the town is shit, the pubs are generally awful and the walk to the ground is depressing.

With the exception of pretending that the building opposite the away end is the set for Celebrity Squares ((c) Baker & Kelly), a visit to Watford has nothing to recommend itself.

I will, however, be going.

Watford is a market town just outside London and retains its independent identity even though people regard it as being part of London (due to being inside the M25).

Visually, its not nice to look at but its got a good shopping centre (the Harlequin) and a good indoor market. Fans with non-footballing partners can leave their partners to go shopping in the Harlequin whilst they walk the short distance to Vicarage Road to (hopefully) enjoy the match.

The football ground is one of the more traditional stadiums which has been modernised and is still being redeveloped. It has its own character and given the short distance from Reading, an easy trip - and definitely worth visiting especially for those fans who don't attend many (or any) away matches.

Its very odd in that they put the home supporters family enclosure next to the visiting away supporters. The hardcore home supporters are located in the Rookery, which is on the opposite side of the pitch from where the away supporters sit (Vicarage Road stand).
