Sarah Star I don't think it's that clear cut as to whether it was a red card tackle or not tbh, but I think it was worth appealing just so that Mills could play yesterday against Coventry since there was only a day between matches to make any changes.

That would be a very dodgy basis to appeal !

Get him excluded from an extra game in order to play in a game with not much on it ?

man u did it with ferdinand didnt they?
though of course there is more riding on their games

Indeed, and got an extra game off for him so he could play in a minor cup final.

Presumably they knew he would be unfit for the games anyway....

At least we have a few more days to prepare for the game with Cardiff after losing a key player and there's always the chance he might get the red card rescinded. Absolutely worth appealing.

But only if he doesn't get an extra game, and that requires there to be merit in the appeal.

It would not have been worth appealing just to allow him to play against Coventry.

The preparation differences would be minimal - Pearce is hardly an inexperienced newcomer and neither he nor Mills has been a regular partner for Zuba.

but theyd practiced all week for the defence to be set up with those two, and if mills had gone then pearce would have been chucked in without much prep time for him/mcd - i think this would have been significant.

its not a frivolous appeal, as it isnt a sending off tackle. theyll ignore it and back the ref, but they cant view it as frivolous

Given that Pearce was on the bench I suspect he'd been asked to come to training during the week as well....

When Alliadiere was sent off after stroking someone's face he appealed and was turned down as his appeal was "frivolous". A stroke on the face or a full-blooded studs up tackle (admittedly only one foot was up)- which would you call a frivolous appeal?

neither although not recalling the Alliadiere incident I wouldn't like to comment without any degree of certainty.

Shouldn't have been a red as was not a dangerous tackle, tackle on Monday was worse and only a yellow. BBC Radio Berkshire's out look on appeal was rather funny...."FA will more than likely look at the appeal and say red card stands but add an extra match ban for questioning their judgement and authority."

Aliadiere raised a hand to an opponents face though and regardless of the amount of contact they will always uphold the red card.

Players have been red carded for intent before without ANY contact being made.....

You may imagine that the appeal has caused problems with our planning for the Cardiff game

Is McD putting Zuba and Pearce through the defensive drills in anticipation of Mills losing his appeal ? Or is Mills the one standing alongside the Bentley driving, prematurely balding Georgian in the hope that clemency is shown ?

They didn't avoid the problem by appealing, they just shifted it a little to the right....

And in fact they made it worse becasue who are they lining up as bench cover for central defence ? Is Bryn going to be the man, in which case we need extra midfield cover , or might they promote one of the youngsters ?

It's a squad game and all the players know there jobs. We saw on Monday that the changes can be made seemlessly. Whether they are good enough to do the job is another thing.....

If mills is suspended for the majority of the rest of the season do you reckon there is any chance brian might try and get an emergency loan in? It would be bizarre to have a whole back 4 made up of loan players.

No because the loan window is closed. You may be able to get a goalkeeper in exceptional circumstances but that is it.
