On loan players you want most to stay

by Royal_Delight » 25 Apr 2010 16:17

Which of our on loan players you want most to stay?

Andy Griffin - One of the most consistent players this year and always gives a 110%. Wisdom comes with age and this guy has shown that on the pitch.

Zurab Khizanishvili - Filled in at the back since Ingi's injury and has proved to be a good player and won many aerial challenges. Large defender but may give away "cheap" fouls and "pushes" opposing to strongly IMO.

Ryan Bertrand - An extremely promising defender and may move on to greener pastures. Great going forward but still needs to work on defending. Not really good in marking and making "blocks"

Bertrand, and imo, the most likely to stay, even if it's on another loan deal.

Would love griffin to stay but seeing as he's a northerner and that his family is settled there I can't see us getting him.

Berty is too good for this league. I can see Chelsea loaning him to a prem team next season to see how he gets on. People maybe forgetting that he's been on loan at Norwich when they were in the championship and I dont think he would fancy a third season in this league.

Khizinashvili would be a good replacement for Ingi if (more likely when) he goes.

Out of the 3, I would say Berty. Especially as quality left backs are hard to come by.

Really?

I'd have Bertrand as the least likely to stay. There must be Premiership interest in him after a very good season at this level.

Griffin for me is the most likely player to sign, then Kissmahwilly. These two are affordable. If a few was required for Berty, we're talking big money we might not have.

I just don't think Griffin will move down south, escepcially since apparently he's settled with family up north, and the club don't offer long contracts to over 30s. And kissmahwilly is still a very good player, so a mid to low prem team would take him probably. Bertrand, on the other hand, is still young and not that experienced, so i'd have thought another Championship season on loan would be reasonable.

Bertrand by a country mile, although I'd actually like all 3 of them to stay. For me Bertrand is the best of the three and being a youngster he also offers the club a financial investment as his stock his likely to increase where as Griffin and what's his name are now declining.

Surely Griffin played for Pompey!!so he's not adverse to playing in the South.
A football career can be a short one and if he gets no other offers then at least he was getting first team football here. Beggers can't be choosers.

I would like us to keep all three.

I would like to think that Sir John will be prepared to open the cheque book to sign up some defenders as I think we have a very good chance of promotion again next season if we can get a good defensive unit together.

I am not sure if any of these three will be in our price range though.

Zurab couldn't get in the team at Blackburn or Newcastle.

I voted for Griffin, as I have next to no faith in Cummings and Kelly is still unproven. I think we could cope with Mills and Pearce at centre back, and Stretch at left back if his knee is sorted out.

I think the chances of Armstrong playing more than a couple of games are minimal.

I'm changing my mind slightly to Griffin. Whilst we have some cover for him in Cummings and Kelly I think we'll seriously struggle to find another player of a similar quality for the same amount he'd cost us, who would settle in as quickly.

Then Bertrand, who I think we could probably pick up someone decent for less. Although he has less cover than Griffin (essentially Kelly).

Then last in the list, Zurab as full backs must be priority and I think Pearce and Mills are decent. But I would definitely still want to try and keep him.

From the OS:

Asked if he (McD) could keep the three players here for longer he said, "We'd like to but Andy has two years on his contract at Stoke and Zurab has another year at Blackburn.

"In terms of Ryan, my gut feel is that he will go back to Chelsea and try to get in their side next season."

Although Hammond has said that we plan to speak to both Stoke and Blackburn about having them back for all of next season.....
