Gylfi must be worth more

Strikers usually go for more than midfielders - even goalscoring ones.

How can they be so sure? If someone comes in with a ridiculous bid we'd surely bite their hands off.

I guess he means that we aren't looking to sell any of them. In other words we don't need to raise money by selling a star asset.

But every player has their price.......

Semantics, but 'being sold' and a player wanting to move to a more high profile club are different things.

RoyalBlue I just hope John Madejski is equally delighted and resists the temptation to sell off another jewel from our crown!

What other 'jewels' has he sold then? I'm confused but I thought we sold Doyle and Co. because clauses in their contracts that allowed them to leave if bids for a certain amount came in. I think you'll find Sir John hasn't sold any jewels.

My god! With such an obtuse and disingenuous argument as that, I'm surprised you can find time out from campaigning for your re-election this Thursday!!

The fact they may have had certain clauses in their contracts doesn't make them any less of a jewel in the crown for god's sake! Equally, had they not had such clauses, do you really think they would not have been sold? Have you really forgotten all that talk of the need for 'cloth cutting', 'balancing the books' etc?

And, as you clearly have such a short memory, you can't possibly be expected to remember a previous occasion when our jewels in the crown were sold i.e. the likes of Hislop and Osborn.

Why? He's only had one full season in the first team, scored 20 goals, and you're already calling him a legend. Let's give him another season before elevating him to any lofty position.

I reckon Gylfi must be worth more to us than any potential buyers. 1 good season in the Championship isn't worth spending too much on, it's a gamble and you can't know whether he'll step up. At the same time he's integral to our team right now, happy here and under contract for another 2 years. If we don't demand £4-5million I'll be massively disappointed in our club and I can't see a lower Premiership club chancing that on him.

if we can get the wage bill down enough i dont see why we'd have to sell the rest for anything
though i agree - a "ridculous" bid would do me

Any news on Noel Hunt? If he were to be fit for next season, I'd happily take 2-3 million for Long - in fact, I'd bite their hands off. I'd keep Hunt and Church but prob let Rasiak go tbf.

can you name another youth team graduate who scored 20 from midfield in his first season in the 1st team?

lofty position well founded IMO

heaven help him if he doesn't get the goals next season, and the crowd notice how little else he does and get on his back

How little else? Are you kidding?

Like most creative players he'll have quiet spells in games, and I still think he's a bit lightweight to be playing through the middle, but his touch and awareness create so much space for himself, and less noticably his team mates that he's vital for us.

This is fair.

I'm not sure he'd work in another system. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the squad/starting XI should be built around him (as I thought it may have been around Marek earlier in the season).
