All Premier League clubs have to have a 25 man squad next season, with 7 of the players being under 21.

As there are approx 850 players regerstered to Prem Clubs then this would mean potentially nearly half of the players currently under contract by a Premiership club would be unemployed.

What would you do if you were unwanted by your club and only had 1 yr left on your contract. I would take a pay drop and go for a 3 yr contract elsewhere.

The possibility of Joining a club which is tipped for promotion next year would be a very good prospect if you ask me.

Why don't you just forget about it all? You're clearly not happy supporting the club, reading about it on here must really pain you. Just go do something else, it'll be better for all of us really won't it?

And coming from a poster who months ago declared he wasn't bothering to renew and would 'cherry pick' his games...

Good news if Zurab want this. Let the movers and shakers sort this out.

Indeed. And I have already earmarked the Bristol City game as one I want to go to. I see this story as being an example of a player making himself available to all comers. Hs time at Blackburn is limited and he wants a new contract somewhere else. Don't be surprised if he leaves Blackburn but only to join a club other than Reading. He may even go abroad. All this is is a simple "Come and get me" plea which will be taken up by his agent.

Although he can speak to his agent on the phone (I'm sure he has his number), and his agent will make the connections.

I agree he may not end up with us, he's playing football in this country for the money and that will have big say in where he ends up. But we do have a significant advantage in that he now knows us, knows the manager etc etc and has a positive feel for the club.

It's mind numbingly boring to have the small number of people on here who can be guaranteed to adopt a negative stance on everything. Just can;t see why you bother....

If that's all it is why is it a ploy by the club to con people into buying season tickets? You might want to settle for one conspiracy at a time

I don't honestly believe his wages would be that much of a problem. Blackburn aren't one of the higher payers in the Premiership and he's never really been more than a squad player there. I reckon somewhere in the region of £8,000 p/w would secure his signing and, although that is relatively high for us in the current climate, it's not bad for an international captain and most likely less than Ivar is on.

Working on the basis that the leaked West Ham weekly figures are broadly correct:

Matthew Upson £70K
Danny Gabbidon £50K
Jonathan Spector £20K
Manuel da Costa £20K
Hérita Ilunga £20K
Fabio Daprelà £10K
James Tomkins £4K
Jordan Spence £400

You could assume £8K wouldn't be enough for Zurab (and Griffin), perhaps a figure +£10K might clinch them both. Lose Ivar off the wage-bill, match Mills' wages, or spunk £400 on Jordan Spence and hope he's not as flat-footed as Pearce.

If you look at the big earners at West Ham, they were all signed at the tail end of Brown's tenure or in the early days of the Icelandic takeover when West Ham were throwing stupid money around on very average players. It's not a fair comparison and Blackburn certainly could not compete with that. Lucas Neill was a high earner at Blackburn and when West Ham bought him they allegedly trippled his wages to £70,000 a week. Khish would not be on anything like the money that Neill was on at Blackburn.

I'm amazed. It's not like he wouldn't be short of offers elsewhere. Maybe it's the can't-quite-believe-it feeling that I have at the moment about the way we finished the season, but I wonder if he, Griff, Kebe, Gylfi and maybe even Feds think it's worth hanging on because we'd have a chance of winning the damned thing next year? Is that too optimistic?

Why are folk so negative, there are ways to sign players, and Championship wages are high compared to many European leagues.

He is not in Blackburns plans, they will have to cut the squad size, they have a player that is getting interest, so moving him on makes sense, even if they get no fee, they will save wages. If he is on £15 k a week there they might even pay him off, say £100k to move on, possibly even £250 k, if the higher figure we could poay £10k a week and he would be doing ok.

Have we seen interest from any other clubs, or is he some kind of hidden gem, that BM sussed and got playing?

Fingers and toes crossed on this one.

Aside from the promise of regular games, I have a sneaking suspicion that any self-respecting foreign national would prefer to head South to the cultural metropolis that is Reading!
