Harpers So Solid Crew It is more a matter of WR moving on really, I think he is the only one that goes on and on and on and on about Coppell, it is in the past, it is fecking boring to keep harping back.

It's the sad members of the car park crew who still persist in crawling up Coppell's @rse 3 years after he ceased to justify his position as manager of this club who REALLY need to move on.

There is nothing more boring than reading the same pathetic contributions from people like you who are happy to blame anyone other than Steve Coppell for the poisition we find ourselves in today.

Why not just make one post a day stating "Steve Coppell is perfect in every way" what else have you got to say?

Steve Coppell is like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.

I don't quite understand what you mean that "... Coppell is to blame for where we are now".

Is that the Coppell that not only delivered us Premier League football, 8th spot in the top flight, a national record points tally but also some of the most exciting and uplifting football even seen by Reading fans? That one?

Yes Coppell had his faults, but I am more than happy to forgive him for those based upon what he bought to the club we support. He has moved on, and so have more than 99% of our fans; personally I prefer to look forward to next season with all the potential it has for RFC rather than hark back and continue to rant, King Lear like, at what has happened before.

Who is the one who brings him up? It's you. All the time. No one says he was perfect, or he got everything right. You just say they do. So shut the oxf*rd up and stop behaving like an adolescent.

Move on. And talk about our current situation, future and the immediate circumstances that have put us here (2009/10).

It took him 4 seasons to get over Sidwell leaving us for pastures new, I expect to see him change his mind on Coppell around 2014

When in history did this stupid need for every situation to be 'blamed' on someone kick in ?

And I'm actually quite happy with the 'position' we find ourselves in today. I'd rather be looking forward to a promotion push than a relegation battle.

Yes, it's the very same Coppell who, as manager of this club, achieved all the things above and received all the accolades for doing so from me and every other sane Reading fan.

However, that doesn't make him blameless, as some insist, for the failures of the 2 seasons that followed.

In fact, back on planet earth, managers enjoy the bulk of the praise in good times and shoulder most of the blame in bad.........................this isn't rocket science but clearly remains beyond the comprehension of too many deluded members of Coppells fan club.

This would be Steve Sidwell whose career has gone nowhere since the day he left us, when I said he had no chance of making an impact at Chelsea and " no nothings" like you insisted it was a smart way to launch his career as a top class midfielder :|

Except that just isn't true.

Coppell acknowledged he made mistakes, I've not seen anyone claim Coppell was perfect and it's a pretty unanimous view on here I suspect that at the very least we failed to make the right signings in our second season in the Prem and then kept faith for too long with the 'old guard' when we went down. Coppell was central to those decisions.

But it just seems bizarre to constantly harp back to them and set Coppell up as the spawn of the Devil because (in retrospect) he got things wrong.

Even if he had got them right I think staying up would have been very tough, as would an immediate promotion. Bear in mind he missed out on both by the smallest margins possible.

So Coppell was not perfect, but he was a lot closer to being perfect than any other manager we had had up until his appointment, and he certainly does not deserve the utterly ridiculous, revisionist one man character assassination he is subjected to. The TO should be looking carefully at the renewals and being very careful which ones they let through IMHO....

Will be interesting how he does at BC.

Can't see it being possible nowdays to make a team as good as 04-05 onwards on the budget we did it on.

He doesn't need to.

We were way better than we needed to be !

If he puts together a team that gets promoted in the next 2-3 years then he'll be seen as succesful (by all expect their local version of Woodcote !!)*

*i do realise woodcote's beef is NOT about the promotion !!

Mr Irascible Steve Coppell
Kevin Dillon
Wally Downes
Dave Kitson
Glen Little

...followed soon one hopes by...if the money is right!

Stephen Hunt
Leroy Lita
Andre Bikey
Brynjar Gunnarsson
Marcus Hahnemann
James Harper
Marek Matejovsky
Graeme Murty
Michael Duberry
Jimmy Kebe

Thanks to all for the memory but this club needs younger and fresher legs, new ambition, fewer prima donnas, tougher tacklers. You all know who fits which category!

The club remains! The fans remain! The memory lingers...URZ!

So just Brynjar and Jimmy left?
