Carragher > Ferdinand?

In what way?

Just because Ferdinand is struggling with his back still? If so I can see where your coming from.

Having both Ferdinand and King as doubts for playing all the games would be a worry for me and taking both could potentially expose the 4th centre back but King has played 3 games in 9 days (or 4 in 16) and been absolutely quality in the run in for Spurs.

I'd rather perm 3 or King, Rio and Terry than bring in Carragher. The worry with King would be ho much can he train with the rest of the back four. Being well organised and drilled will be key towards the end of the tournament, but with so much time between now and then I think he'd cope pretty well.

In exactly that way, plus when he has played this year (I think he's played this year?) he hasn't exactly made me think of Bobby moore

Carragher blew his bridges with England when he retired. Terrible decision to bring him back, not even any good.

From what I've seen of the Premier League this season Ferdinand has still looked good, although his rare appearances haven't been up to his usual standards (but then who's at Utd have apart from Fletcher and Rooney).

If I was discounting Ferdinand because of his injury then I'd look at Dawson, Cahill, Upson and Roger Johnson over Carragher.

From what I saw of Warnock at the Madejski, he won't be in the squad.

None have the footballing brain of Carragher though, thats why i think he's being looked on.....Dawson has had a good season, but is he really International standard? - same with Cahill and Johnson. Upson is probably the only one that i would take over Carragher imho

He's lost a yard of pace compared to even 12-18 months ago though, it's not like he's had a vintage season is it?

Not sure on that football brain bit, but he's experienced and maybe less likely to have a shocker than the others.

Personally I don't think he's been very good for the last two seasons (remember all those rash tackles and grabbing of shirts he does all the time because he's been caught out yet again) and on top of the fact he said he didn't care as much about England just makes me think it's not the answer.

If we're taking him as backup right it's just daft.

King and Dawson in the heart of the defence wouldn't be that bad a thing.................would it?

At least Capello can now call up better LB cover than Baines

That doesn't make sense. I don't give a shit what the players do in their private lives (note the word, private), as long as they do the business on the pitch.

Two years ago I'd have said this was a real problem, but now, with the way he's been playing for the last few months I'm not too worried.

It does just make the gamble on Ferdinand and Kings fitness even greater though, although I suspect Terry might be ok and make it to the finals anyway, but 3 crocked centre halfs really isn't ideal.

When does Woodgate get fit....
