Urinal Mint Always a shame to see a non Welsh club struggle, but especially one as old and as proud as Preston North End. But, the selfish side screams "administration roots them to the bottom of the table and a relegation battle for the most part" and that 'possibly' helps us.

To be honest I can;t see us at the bottom of the table next season, nor Preston at the top so I don't think any points deduction would really affect us.

Apart from the spell when Martin Allen managed to get right up the collective PNE noses I've always seen them as a grand old club and wouldn;t wish them ill.

I don't quite understand how Preston have got into such a state though? I know they've redeveloped Deepdale a fair bit in the last 15 years but otherwise I can't think of much they've spent money on.

They also sold McKenna to Forest for about 2.5 million in the summer and have had a few cash injections from playoff trips etc in recent seasons.

It's clubs like this going into admin that really do worry me far more then idiotic clubs that overspend to excess.

They've been competing towards the top of the division for quite a long time though, we all know wages are the killer. Top end Champ wages aren't exactly small fry for club with Preston's income.

It is a little surprising they're in this sort of trouble though...

They're (only) 20 days late with their tax payments - so they're being fairly hardsly treated by HMRC in comparison with the way other clubs have got away with murder. But you can't really blame HMRC for applying the rules to the letter on behalf of what's happening at Portsmouth, for instance.

It is also probably fair to guess they, like a lot of companies have been heavily dependent on bank overdrafts and loans. Many banks have reduced borrowings even to profitable companies. If they have refinanced, it is quite possible they are now paying much higher interest charges. It is sufficient to put a weak company under.

Ideal This just shows how much clubs have been overspending.
I suspect there are a lot more clubs in trouble than we know of.
They vast majority are probably dangerously close to immediate financial trouble.

'greed with that and under such circumstances its no wonder 23/24 Championship chairman were prepared to sacrifice the competitiveness of the Championships for more scraps from the Premier League table. :(

Row Z Royal Thoroughly inoffensive club though - wish them the best.

Inoffensive? Yeah right. I still remember them behaving bitterly towards us, complaining about us nicking Nicky Forster and Martin Butler and then moaning about us warming up in their half at Deepdale.

And going further back, I remember hearing, in the aftermath of our home 2-1 win over them, about how their captain kicked the referee's door and we had to send them a bill for repairs to the door.

BITTER people.

While it was a laugh at the time, are you really so blinkered that you don't think it was actually a pretty stupid thing to do. How would you feel if a team came to the Madejski and insisted on warming up on the same half of the pitch as our lot? I've no doubt you'd be one of the first up in arms about it.

Really don't have a problem with PNE, even if I have been there several times and yet to see us win.

Spot on. The genius Pardew mind games will continue to grace the lower leagues next season!

Well, I don't know what actually happened with the warm up as I didn't see it myself, but I had the impression that Reading came out first to warm up and choose to warm up in the area the home side usually warm up in. If that was the case, the home side could have warmed up at the other end instead, but I imagine they wanted to be contrary about it.

I'll think you'll find we were the ones being contrary - every club will know which end teams warm up in as part of their routine - we did that at PNE to get up their noses and it worked.

plus, we made Preston wear their away kit that day, because it's a little known fact that the only two teams that never have to change...er,...............hang on, I haven't thought this one through properly.
